The after-shave

In Europe this product is manufactured by UNILEVER ESPAÑA, S.A., and the bottles (200 ml and 400 ml) continue to be made of glass.

The European "option" is somewhat lighter. Excellent after-shave lotion, very discreet, which can be used with any other perfume of choice without interfering with it.

A Young Man's Introduction to the World of Fragrances !

Millions of guys had their first experience of an aftershave or cologne with Aqua Velva or Old Spice.

Aqua Velva was a standard in the barbershop; part of the company's promotion and merchandising was through the clip joints, very clever.

AV is a bright, lively, fresh, invigorating scent that lifts the spirits, makes you feel great.

There's quite a complex blend of top, heart and base notes here -- much more intricate a fragrance than you might expect. The perfumer sure knew what he was doing to attract and keep a youthful clientele.

The fruity, menthol, slightly minty start is the big refresher, the icy edge. Then comes the powerful woody middle, with a musky, leathery finish. Terrific!

Even after several decades, I still keep a bottle of AV on hand to splash on now and then when I'm in a nostalgic mood. There's nothing else quite like it. Yup -- I'm an Aqua Velva man !

A Friendly Companion, .... and Off to the Forest by the Lake!

Just looking at the bottle and feeling the material it's made of, one might believe it's some horrifically sharp mouthwash, where you'd want to shout "Fire!!" when swirling a sip around your tongue, mouth, and palate.
But that's a big misconception about the CONTENT!
This is actually a very friendly companion, a lovely fragrance. Although it's an "After Shave," that doesn't matter at all!
It smells like a good Eau de Toilette. Very fresh accents at the beginning, cheerful green mint, not like "Wrigley's Spearmint" gum. But like the leaves of the aromatic and medicinal plant when you lightly rub them between your fingers. Numerous citrus notes accompany and support the friendly freshness. A hint of lavender is also present. A bright green-blue, if the fragrance's opening had a color. A slight floral touch later accompanies the fresh-herbaceous blend, without being overbearing or trying to be "fussy." Harmony in light, like a sunny day with a blue sky and pleasant warmth on a large meadow, with a lake nearby.
Slowly, woody aromas begin to creep in, the air gradually becoming a bit more humid, coming from the lake, and these accents become noticeable in the fragrance as well. A forest now unfolds before me, whose slightly darker, very pleasant scents mix with the fresh-moist turquoise-green fragrances. Ferns grow at the edge of the lake near the forest. And a hint of cool and light slightly smoky scents now wafts over from the place. Like fine incense sticks. And they blend with those of the "Forest by the Lake"!

Blue Radiance

Generally unknown to Europeans, Aqua Velva is an established name in the men's grooming segment in the US market. Everything about this aftershave signals an unwavering readiness to face the challenges of the next twenty-four hours, invigorated and full of drive. In a society that largely defines itself by the length of the workday, this product helps countless individuals in the service and manufacturing sectors find a common olfactory denominator.

Even though its straightforward nature likely appeals more to a target audience that throws on a work shirt or plaid flannel in the morning, Aqua Velva can certainly also be found on the occasional office floor, where a freshly pressed white shirt adorns the upper body. American in the best sense, this aftershave has secured a place across all classes in the bathrooms of the nation.

The scent experience is quickly described: Aqua Velva combines green citrus notes, herbal lavender, and a sharp spiciness that I would most closely attribute to clove and cinnamon (even though these are not listed in the fragrance pyramid). All of this is overshadowed by an unrelenting ozonic-aquatic freshness that feels like a steel pipe on a frosty December morning in Alaska against the cheeks. If this doesn’t wake you up instantly, nothing will.

Surprisingly, I appreciate this robust straightforwardness, and while daily use is certainly out of the question, Aqua Velva is occasionally a welcome change from the refined compositions that usually shape my fragrance routine.

A true American classic with a lot of menthol in the top note, but in the drydown it’s typically darker, greener, warmer, and muskier.

Fresh minty scent that turns into a great fougère, starting bright and then deepening into woody-earthy notes, becoming mossy and turning into a forest spirit. COOL!!
