The classic Italian men's fragrance from Xerjoff!

Richwood is for me the third fragrance from the house of Xerjoff after Naxos and Erba Pura. The latter was sold in the souk yesterday, but soon Zefiro will move in. This also reflects my current fragrance preferences quite well: away from sweet scents and towards classic Italian men's fragrances. And I find that Richwood fits very well into this category!

I was able to test Richwood sufficiently through a sample, and it was one of those fragrances that you want to keep smelling from the atomizer again and again. For a long time, I wanted the Irisss, as it receives much more media attention, but I reflected and thought to myself, "Okay, you find the Irisss quite nice, but it's the Richwood that you want to smell over and over again." With a little Christmas money, I was able to cover at least part of the exorbitant price and ordered the 50mL bottle.

For me, the fragrance starts off very fruity (with a slight citrus note) in combination with this classic, perhaps somewhat old-fashioned Italian DNA. The latter arises for me from the combination of labdanum, sandalwood, and patchouli. Especially at the beginning, the resinous labdanum is most noticeable. Sandalwood makes it slightly creamy and a µ sweet, while the patchouli comes across as slightly earthy. However, I never find the patchouli as pronounced as perhaps some others do. As it develops, the fragrance becomes a bit powdery, although this is really kept in check. At the same time, the fruitiness decreases slightly. I can hardly perceive the rose at all. In my eyes, the fragrance retains the top note for a very long time, until it slowly transitions into the dry down after 4-5 hours. The heart note feels skipped. In the dry down, the fruitiness is almost gone, and it becomes a bit woodier and earthier. All other fragrance notes, however, have lost their intensity, and the scent becomes pleasantly light and close to the skin. Longevity is about 7 hours in total, and sillage is average (which fits very well with the DNA).

I see the fragrance similarly to Naxos for special occasions or when you simply feel like putting your signature scent aside and going all out. It would be a shame to wear it every day, not just because of the price ;) However, I would avoid warm temperatures, as it would likely become very cloying then! For me, it's ideal for going out (not clubbing) or generally in spring, autumn, and occasionally in winter :)

And to summarize it one last time:
Richwood is not a woody-spicy sandalwood scent for me, but rather fruity-resinous with slight woody-earthy undertones! Overall, a great creation that I hope I never get too much of :)
