Tony Iommi Monkey Special is an incredibly multifaceted niche fragrance that really deserves the name niche fragrance. I became aware of this fragrance mainly through its association with my favorite music genre.
Previously, anything associated with the word boozy tended to put me off.
Here, however, my curiosity was too great to steer clear of this perfume. That speaks for very clever marketing, created in cooperation with one of the greatest guitarists of the rock genre.
Chapeau for the idea of creating a perfume together with a rock icon. This is all the more true when it involves a passionate connoisseur and collector. You could have randomly chosen someone who represents rock music, but you chose someone with expertise.
I don't remember there being anything like this before, and if there was, the attempt was certainly not as authentic as here.
Authentic is exactly what describes this fragrance wonderfully.
It is noble and yet somewhat wicked, it changes again and again and appears complex, but never overloaded.
It has an incredible sillage and lasts forever, but never becomes too penetrating.
The balance is incredibly well achieved from start to finish.
After the fruity opening with a noticeable rum note, it becomes a little softer, more cinnamony and vanilla-like over time. Leather and patchouli remain an integral part from start to finish. The rum note remains present, but is never too strong in the foreground.
I wouldn't dare wear it to the office, but that would also be the completely wrong environment.
It is a night-out fragrance that feels most at home at pub nights, parties, concerts and festivals.
I think there is very little chance that this fragrance will be worn outdoors by everyone and can be smelled on every corner. It's too special for that. Just as is usually the case with good music :)
Nevertheless, you often get compliments for it.
I've always been too stingy for most niche fragrances, but here I've completely run out of counterarguments.
It's a gem in my collection that also looks great. The bottle and the box are a feast for the eyes.
