Vintage and nostalgic
I usually enjoy the sweetest, tooth-decaying, sugar coma scents. However, I have a sweet spot for vintage scents as well. This one is easily one of my favorites from the vintage category. I realize it was reformulated but I enjoy this newer one. (I've never smelled the vintage.) It is powder heavy and a bit spicy with a citrus opening. It is nostalgic for me, but I don't have any memories associated with this scent. I don't think my grandma ever wore it or anything. It just invokes the feeling of a lady from the 40s sitting at her boudoir, applying makeup to get ready for her day. I love wearing it when I wear my 40s and 50s vintage clothes for that reason.

a veil of lace
“Chantilly”: Immediately, I have the image of the most exquisite Chantilly lace in mind, and anyone who thinks its heyday is over is mistaken: Even today, the fashion industry turns to this lace classic in black and white, and less frequently in cream, for grand occasions - whether gala evenings or weddings.
Particularly alluring are the lingerie made from it; they convey an incomparable wearing experience!
And why shouldn’t we compare lace lingerie to a work of fragrance:
After all, both are worn on bare skin!
Or how about a veil of Dana's “Chantilly” instead of a nightgown?
Nothing, absolutely nothing, speaks against it!

For me, “Chantilly” is the olfactory embodiment of early summer; the time of the first garden or terrace parties, for example.
The sun is already warming, inviting us to linger in the nature that has awakened over the past few weeks and is still putting on its best show; a light jacket or scarf should still be at hand.
The green carpet of grass tempts one to take off their shoes and once again feel the connection with the power of the earth after a long time.
But be careful: It is still quite early in the year!
The warm, caressing summer breeze is rich in aromas: It brings the freshness of citrus fruits (who knows where they come from), among other floral scents, including those of the first spicy garden carnations and early roses that are already blooming in the beds below the terrace where we gather to bask in the air and light and chat cheerfully.
Jasmine has already unpacked its June charm; the large white flowers are still innocently pure, and the scent is more aromatic-spicy-fresh than sensual or even cloying.
That time will come later; for now, the bright and light dominates, which is expressed in the climbing cheerfulness of ylang-ylang.
The first spring freshness has faded, the beginning of summer promises much and already harbors sensual fragrance notes:
The now sun-warmed ground seems to exhale the earthy heaviness of patchouli, paired with the eternally masculine note of sandalwood.
A veil of summery light fruit and floral scents lies over this pleasantly spicy base, which likely also contains oak moss and into which warm, feminine, and alluring accents of vanilla and musk blend as a highlight.
Not every fragrant detail here, not every note needs to be mentioned:
This summer fragrance painting highlights each one, no matter how large or small its contribution may be.

Like the first stays in summer nature, Dana's “Chantilly” is a typical Eau de Toilette: The corporeality still lacks the summer fullness and maturity, and the longevity corresponds more to the brevity of these summer days.

And yet, “Chantilly's” fine fragrance garment envelops wonderfully and, with a few spritzes, reminds one for a while of something other than gray, dreary days with continuous rain and mud.
This charming composition sings of sun and flowers, caressing spiced warm winds, and fertile earth.
A song that promises the cheerfulness of summer and thus drives away the gloom.
That’s why I have just decided to believe in this promise and will dress in fine “Chantilly” fragrance lace, even if a warm sweater is still necessary over it.
What good are these promises, these temptations enclosed in glass flacons, if we do not follow them?

With net and double bottom...
...In the circus of balsamic spice. Chantilly is one of the few fragrances that does not pre-program a specific season, a specific selected "audience," or a gender.
It has that certain something that allows for versatile use without being mainstream. Here, a floral, crisp freshness can be sensed, which, together with the spices and the balsamic-earthy notes, creates a kind of "trapeze act in the circus" - exciting, acrobatic, entertaining, fascinating, slightly mystical but never truly "dangerous."
A soft net of various down-to-earth aromas from flowers and woods prevents it from ever appearing intrusive, no "annoying perfume cloud," just a spicy-fine, somewhat darker freshness that makes many "Wow, it smells so good here..." tilt their noses and want to track down the source.
And a kind of "double bottom" is also built into "Chantilly," which securely holds all the lovely fragrance components for a long time and gently sets them down on the ground at some point.
A fragrance like airy heights and solid ground beneath your feet.

Surprise
I am a Lush child. It was through the products and perfumes of this brand that I became a true fragrance junkie in 2006. So I was all the more surprised when I smelled Chantilly for the first time.

Chantilly has been on my watchlist for two years. But somehow I never came across it as a sample.
I love old classics. They are classics for a reason, and I am always on the lookout for affordable treasures.
I have tested and own the version from Dana.
All comments about the scent are on the Chantilly/Houbigant side. Are there only owners of the vintage scent here? The acquisition by Dana was, after all, 14 years ago.

When I finally ordered and tested it, I was very surprised.
There is a strong similarity to the Karma Signature Fragrance from Lush.
I knew that one first, but this one came first.

The similarity is quite pronounced for me. Especially this citrus-resinous note at the beginning is common to both.
I always suspected Elemi resin, but that is missing in Chantilly. I sold the Karma perfume because it constricted my throat. It was too strongly concentrated and a bit too dry for me. Chantilly smells a bit more delicate, more like the Karma soap.

For me, it starts quite spectacularly resinous and green-citrusy-bitter. Slightly soapy tones also dominate. I smell orange or have the impression of the color of orange fruits. Clove and spices only appear very lightly and rather dry later on. I also perceive the warm-vanilla base only subtly and close to the skin after about an hour. The scent initially seems rather dark green-mossy and woody-resinous-aromatic. Overall, a very refreshing, clear, and memorable fragrance that later becomes a clean, rather skin-close cuddly scent. The base ends after a few hours as unspectacularly as the appearance was spectacular.
I can imagine that the earlier version was somewhat more persistent.

You would always recognize Chantilly once you have smelled it. That’s how I imagine the women who wore it. You never forget them. They are memorable and special.

Right now I can hardly imagine that the scent is already so old. For me, it is quite a modern interpretation of a perfume. It could very well be a niche fragrance. I find the cut crystal bottle very pretty. It is designed in the style of the 1960s and feels valuable. Additionally, it fits well in the hand.

A great and more wearable variant of the Karma scent. Chantilly is also suitable for men and can be worn all year round.
It also pairs well with fir needle bubble baths.

Nice... Now I finally have the perfect scent when the Karma soap needs to be replaced.

Benzoin and orange blossom in a puff of powder, moss, leather, and lemon. Utterly dated but utterly cozy and kind. Viva la drugstore!

Don't rush it!
Already freshly washed,
I just need to spice myself up again.

Scent from childhood days, cozy, a mix of spices with cinnamon, clove, a bit of citrus, patchouli + wood, slightly powdery, never overwhelming.

I found the original classic by Houbigant more exciting, but Dana does a great job again and brings a contemporary flair.

Captivating essence of a summer garden: fruity freshness, enchantingly spiced clove-rose-jasmine bouquet, sensually warm wrapped.

Starts fresh, herbal + slightly soapy. Along with rather dry spices + a lovely garden clove. Powdery + soft; in the dry down, vanilla. With retro charm.

The vintage one may be more beautiful, but this one has an incredible amount of retro charm. A real gem often found at a mini price.

I can't remember the Houbigant anymore. Here's a rather mild powdery floral scent with a creamy sweetness as a base. Quite nice, really.

Very nice spicy-powdery - clove-sandalwood - woody-patchouli and delicately vanilla.
