slightly dirty, but pure vanilla
I have been able to test a few vanilla scents in my fragrance search. Initially, I noticed that I probably understand vanilla perfume quite differently than many here.
For me, the theme of vanilla should dominate, and all other notes should be just a fleeting addition. Unfortunately, vanilla is often only secondary, and it seems to be about the scent as a whole.
I also noticed that in the rather high-priced range, the scents are quite overloaded and brutal. This causes the vanilla to be strongly mixed with other ingredients and not to come through fully.
I would prefer a simple scent that can also be used for layering or just worn on its own. I perceive vanilla as subtle and a feel-good scent, and I want to be able to wear it that way.
The best candidates so far that come closest to my expectations (as of 12.09.24) have been the well-known Eclaire (which at around 100,- is far too expensive) and Supreme Vanilla. The latter starts off strongly alcoholic with an earthy vanilla note. One could also define this as "ink" - in any case, the scent seems slightly smoky because of that.
Otherwise, there are no further notes to disturb, it is pure vanilla. As it develops, one could also think they smell papyrus subtly, which makes the scent very elegant and rather masculine.
Eclaire is qualitatively better, but it has a slightly sugary note that also reminds one of almonds or marzipan.
I am curious if I can top both scents on my fragrance journey.
29.09.24: Recently, I was able to test Vanilla Vibration, which has a nice scent at the beginning but later drifts towards overripe sweet fruit. In contrast, Vanilla Supreme offers beautifully rich pure vanilla and actually lasts for days on clothing.

The best vanilla scent I've ever had was actually a two-mark (!!!) thing from the discount store that I used for years. I have no idea what it was called, but it was just top-notch - from about a hundred years ago in the mid-nineties ^^
