Dudù. A peculiar name, at least in terms of sound. Somehow, it also makes me think of VW Beetle cars, because in the 70s there was this German film series Dudu, which was supposed to resemble the American Herbie films from Disney. However, I found Herbie more likable, as Herbie had a life of its own as a car, while Dudu was more of a technical wonder car (possibly with a bit of artificial intelligence). However, Dudu probably had more gadgets than any James Bond car :D In any case, I have always really liked the Herbie films (especially as a child), that I painted all my VW Beetle toy cars white and designed them just like in the films, complete with racing stripes and all. The number 53 (Herbie's racing number) has even burned itself deeply into my consciousness; whenever I see the number 53, I still think of Herbie today :D
But Dudù here is not about cars at all (and it’s not a scent related to a film or anything), but about Giorgia, the oldest daughter of the perfumer, who goes by the nickname Dudù. Her dreamy nature inspired Stefania Marzufero Boni (the perfumer) to create this fragrance here.
Hmm… I somehow like my Herbie/Dudu story better… :D
**The Fragrance:** The fragrance immediately smells of sweet, powdery vanilla. If the frangipani not only has a floral-sweet scent but also a slightly fruity undertone, then I perceive it correctly (as I have often written: Plants! As if I had a clue about the vegetables! :D). Because otherwise, I have no idea where the slight fruity note could come from. In any case, the opening is very beautiful, feminine, and softly warm, and of course sweet. From the heart note, spices come into play, but not the kind of bitter kitchen herbs like rosemary or coriander or anything, but rather slightly dry scents reminiscent of spices from cookies or pastries, which fit perfectly with the vanilla direction of the fragrance and also smell delicious. It has a bit of a Christmas vibe, and I always like that :) In any case, the fragrance remains extremely sweet at the end, slightly pastry-like-vanilla with a very slight floral-fruity undertone (well, more floral than fruity).
**The Sillage and Longevity:** The sillage is quite good; one could easily overapply the fragrance and thus fill an entire room. When applied normally, it lasts quite well on the skin, and that for a longer time. You certainly won’t have any problems standing out. The longevity is,… well, we have vanilla and spices… a combination that smells for many hours, and with good intensity. Here, easily 10 hours are possible, maybe even more!
**The Bottle:** The bottle is rectangular, clear, and filled with a slightly brownish fragrance liquid. The label on the front is simple but nicely designed with its two-colored lettering. The cap is cylindrical and black. Like almost all niche fragrances, this bottle is overall a bit simple, but still nicely made.
**Conclusion:** Hmm… Are you already longing for winter or Christmas? Especially now after all those hot summer days? Are you looking for a new winter fragrance with vanilla and cookies? Then this fragrance is just right for you! …. Ugh, that sounded like an advertisement… I should charge money if I could influence you and boost the sales of the fragrance :D
In any case, Dudù is a lovely fragrance that smells pleasant. I also like that the cookie-like scent comes through stronger at times, so you don’t just smell pure vanilla for a long time, as is often the case. You could wear it in your leisure time and also in the evening, maybe not necessarily at parties, but perhaps for going out to eat, meeting someone, or something like that. Maybe you can also simply spray it on for yourself and enjoy it; I mean, who doesn’t like cookies? (Even my stomach is growling again, and I just ate an hour ago… :D)
Of course, as already mentioned, the fragrance is only suitable for the cold autumn and even colder winter. Now, while it’s still quite warm, it would only come across as extremely overwhelming. And who actually eats cookies and pastries in the summer when they would rather stuff themselves with ice cream? Best served on some fruit, maybe with waffles and cream or chocolate sauce on the side, hmmm :D
Well, that’s it from me for today. I wish you a lovely evening :) And now I’m going to see where my old toy cars are; somewhere there should still be a VW Beetle in Herbie form lying around, he he!
I immediately thought of the beetle when I saw the name Dudu. I used to enjoy those movies as a kid.
I don't know the scent Dudú, but since I like gourmand fragrances, I really enjoyed your review.
How lovely that it reminds you of Christmas! I'm sure you've already started planning for the holiday season, your favorite time of the year. Only three months to go! ;-)
Talk soon, I'm looking forward to your next post.
Best, Petra
Oh, how I love your writing 😀... zeromolecole isn't really my thing (too artificial, expensive, and poor sillage/longevity), but I’ll give this Dudú a try anyway. I’ll hop into my husband’s vintage Beetle (it's red and ivory) 😄 and test the scent there...
I’ve reviewed that one too. Back then, I didn’t know the scent of real fresh frangipani flowers yet. From now on. It’s a wonderful scent (not heavy like jasmine, for example) that I haven’t experienced well in any perfume. But frangipani flowers don’t smell fruity. That must be something else. But how am I supposed to know what your nose picked up?
Sorry, but with Dudu, my imagination has taken over, and I can hardly focus on the scent anymore... Just imagine, my first car was a beautiful VW Beetle that I still miss... I drove it all the way to Bordeaux, and all the French people were amazed when I passed by in my lovely ride. Oh, that was nice... The Beetle had just one flaw: in summer, it was like a sauna, and in winter, it wouldn’t start at all... Such a long time ago! Dudu as a scent could probably be quite nice... But right now, I’m still lost in nostalgia... Thank you for that 🥰
