Beautiful Floral Grounded by Basil

Orchid Mantis has a lot of floral notes in its profile. That being said, I was a bit confused by the first blasts as the most prominent note was basil with a trail of pear and citrus. Where were the florals? After about 10 minutes, they made an appearance in the form of Rose, Ylang Ylang and Queen of the Night.

For those who do not know Queen of the Night, to many it can be described as a honeyed white floral reminiscent of Magnolia and Gardenia mixed together. Absolutely beautiful. That being said, basil is always lurking to keep this one grounded.

After Orchid Mantis settles, the floral notes took over, specifically the Queen of the Night with a hint of ylang ylang. On my chemistry, the musk also comes forward, but this is not surprising any my chemistry loves animal notes. It doesn't overwhelm the fragrance, but still lurking.

To be honest, on the dry down, this one reminded me slightly of Hummingbird for some reason. After researching it, I think the Queen of the night mixed with the rose and ylang ylang created a similar dry down. Especially as Queen of the night has a slight sweet honeyed scent. I adore Hummingbird, so I wasn't upset about it, but as I prefer Hummingbird, it made me long for it a bit as I prefer the sweet floral without the basil.

The longevity was moderate lasting around 3.5 hours on my skin and 5 hours lightly on clothing.
