Floral & Green!!
Orchid Mantis smells like a garden filled with flowers and herbs. It's floral, but it's green, herbaceous, and slightly bitter as well (which I'm assuming is the basil). The opening also has a hint of pear, but that fades away as the scent dries down. The green/herby smell eventually fades away too, leaving more of just a floral smell. I can't really decipher the floral notes from one another so it literally smells like I'm walking though a giant field of assorted flowers (although my nose is pretty untrained and not the best at detecting individual notes, especially florals lol).

When it dries down, Orchid Mantis smells.... dirty? Like, it starts to smell like literal dirt/soil to me. It's also a bit musky smelling. I don't mind the dirt smell honestly, I think it fits in with the theme of the perfume.

Overall, I think Orchid Mantis is a really interesting scent! It has so many different notes and the scent changes so often while I'm wearing it. It definitely gives off orchid mantis vibes and it's one of the more "safer" scents I've tried from Zoologist. If you're into loud floral scents, give it a try!

Late 80's time capsule
the golden girls - shoulder pads - queen bitch - pantsuits - boss lady - exotic greenhouse with a raised conference room - red lipstick and severe contour - absolutely ridiculously huge hair - flowers too big for a bouquet - 98% humidity level - black wet soil hanging thick in the air - bees with so much pollen they fly drunkenly - drag queens

humid greenhouse
Mantis opens up with punch of white florals and citrus and then there is this pear chilling in mids of all and i love the pear its big and juicy. the start is uplifting and bright. once it dryes down it becomes this humid and earthy white floral, and the pear dont forget it its has not left yet. this is the greenhouse part and its just amazing. and in the end you are left with this musky and ever so slight white flower base and let me tell you its good and it last and now you can forget the pear it has rolled away. to me this is not the queen bitch or super feminen scent to me this is well blended green and floral scent that can absolutely be worn by anyone and i mean anyone. it last and its projects. dont be afraid that this is ''too feminen'' i belive there is no genders to parfumes.

I dub thee "Power Floral."
Orchid Mantis is not soft like Cow; it is beast mode tropical floral. (I learned the hard way that one spray is plenty.) This opens as a humid, dense, sun-soaked floral that is hardly tamed by leaf and rice. Floral remains throughout but does soften to allow mossy, earth incense to appear. This is a hyper-realistic floral with a touch of animalic beeswax and musk and lots of warm, earthy spice. Orchid Mantis has attitude - roaring when you'd guess that it would stalk quietly on your skin. Instant love for the right occasion/season.

A greenhouse in Florida
Humid florals, this one opens strong — like stepping into a botanical garden’s greenhouse and breathing in deep. The green notes are most prominent, with an almost petrichor-like wetness; this is a muggy, damp sweetness that sticks to the nose. Orchid and jasmine stick out as the dominant florals, but without any powderiness like I might expect from that pairing; there’s nothing even close to dry here, you can practically feel the dewdrops on their petals. If I try I can get a bit of pear and even less bergamot, but there’s nothing basil or lemon about this for me — this is humidity and greenery and tropical flowers.

As a fan of Hummingbird, the photorealistic, punchy flower notes immediately reminded me of that scent. But Orchid Mantis is overwhelmingly greener, far more in-your-face, and has the wet, hot tropical notes that set it apart. Hummingbird is spring in a field of flowers, Orchid Mantis is summer in a greenhouse of flowers — with a lot more attitude; in a direct comparison, the musk stands out more in Orchid Mantis, and the patchouli base gives this more of a boss big sister vibe without being too much (I’m not usually a patchouli fan.)

Overall, exactly what I’d imagine from an Orchid Mantis — it lures you in like a pretty flower but won’t hesitate to bite your head off.

Sour green fruity floral. Slight powdery latex sap. Light bright pear. Very balanced between fresh and indolic.
Elegantly alien but familiar

a beautiful floral with a strong initial blast of basil, citrus and greens. The basil is always lurking even on the dry down. Floral forward

Great (if pricy) feminine daily driver. Tastefuly sweetened pear+rose+jasmine supported by sour and uplifting aromatics on fluffy musks.

In my country we have a roach killer named Teza. In the opening and halfway to the dry down, it smells like that. Quiet overbearing.

Pow! Big floral hit at first, a nice sweet green after that. The story had me expecting a darker secret hiding in the base, but quite a safe Zoologist

A walk through the butterfly house: colorful, humid, indolent. A twist of vetiver, patchouli, and creamy sandalwood, where the orchid rests.

Green, earthy vintage chypre with an enchanting pear note in the opening. Finally challenging for a modern zoologist.
