Boozy Rhino with Leather Fetish

Admittedly, if you are not familiar with leather scents, the first acquaintance with the pachyderm is particularly impressive and remains long in the memory. Tested on paper strips, the associations in my circle of friends ranged from cable fire to electrical scrap to dentist. I couldn't convince them to try it on their skin, because like most zoologist's duffles, they develop much differently than on paper. So it doesn't sound like a great crowd-pleaser at first, but I would guess that most amateur zoologists also wear the scents primarily for their own pleasure. So we come quickly to my impressions, because they tell a very different story.

At first sniff, Rhinoceros pretty much blew me away as well, but not in a negative sense. Simply because it's such an intense, extraordinary experience. Since this is the old original version of 2014, I could not test it myself before, but since I generally have a soft spot for deep, smoky-woody fragrances as well as being a big fan of the Encre Noire series and Bentley for Men Intense, I was eager to plunge into this adventure. To my great fortune, had after some consultation the very nice team at "The Parfum and Beauty" but still a few bottles of this old formulation in stock.

Rhinoceros starts with a bath in the rum barrel. And of course then only the best quality, so that the boozy accord comes across wonderfully aromatic. Exciting here are also the balsamic / floral notes - especially sage and lavender, which provide a fresh counterbalance to the rum in the background. What I find remarkable is that the more I wear Rhinoceros on my skin, the more differentiated and distinct I can perceive these green notes. This is just one example of why Victor Wong and his fabulous worlds have captivated me in no time. Like journeys into the animal worlds, you experience them differently with each subsequent venture.

So after our rhino has a good one sitting down, it makes its way towards the forest and takes things easy. Woody notes and tobacco increasingly displace the humid and cheerful opening and show new ways. It gets drier, grittier and heavier. We have reached the point where the fragrance presents the true character (or is it a fetish?) of the Rhino and at the same time becomes emblematic of the outer appearance: smoky/dusty leather. At the same time, the scent does not develop pungent or penetrating at any point, but remains very perceptible on the skin for 8h+. Simply an incredible depth and impressive presence.

Rhinoceros is certainly just at the beginning for many especially by its powerful appearance rather deterring, but I am sure that you should just get to know the animal better. Paul Kiler has succeeded in creating a creative masterpiece that makes me very happy - and not only as a friend of leather fragrances. As Victor Wong informed me when asked, this original release has been discontinued due to, among other things, hard-to-get ingredients and now lack of IFRA compliance. The new Rhinoceros from 2020 has also become very good, but quite different from this one.
