Beautiful Gardenia
Rappele Toi makes part of the luxuous L'artisan collection, where each creation represent a kind of mood or sensation.Rapelle Toi, in thesis, is a contemplative perfume centered on the gardenia aroma, and for me it's a kind of warm and sexy, not exactly my impression of something contemplative. My first impression is of something extremely spicey and fresh, with a smell that reminds me of both iris and cucumber. After this it goes into a fruity floral interpreation of the gardenia aroma, a floral, juicy one that reminds me of gardenia creations like Serge Lutens Une Voix Noire (without the boozy side) and Cartier La Panthere (without the patchouli base). There is a citrus nuance interesting on the fragrance heart, something that reminds of the bittersweet smell of orange flower leafs. Finally, it's base reveals an interesting and different facet of its smell, a combination of honey, musk and sandalwood that offers a more carnal side to tis smells. In this phase Rapelle Toi acts for me in two lavels: at distance it's fruity floral and succulent aroma seems inocent, but close the skin it reveals a more animalic and dry side that makes me think of something more intimate, like a love that hides all it experience behind an inocent facade. It's a beautiful dynamic perfume, even tough it's not a contemplative one.

Like a honey pie horse
Two or three weeks ago it was still about thirty degrees, yesterday it was 24 in the afternoon, and today I wore a scarf for the first time this season and turned on the desk lamp in the office in the evening. So: time for the winter scents!
Rappelle-Toi is a fragrance of which I have owned a 10 ml miniature for almost 2 years, which is still quite full. So I do not wear it often, but when I do, I always like to wear it. It never occurred to me to give it away. I kind of love him, although he is not my classic prey
For me, it is a honey scent, a very creamy, bitter forest honey. Absolutely sweet, absolutely viscous and resinous (in the figurative sense, the spray head does not stick, of course), but never pointy and sugary, but rather dark and spicy. And this not only in the base note, as indicated here, but from the first moment on, as I perceive the fragrance to be rather linear (or at best softly unfolding) than heavily iridescent or dynamically developing. Honey as backbone, as paradoxical as it sounds.

That is why all kinds of spices - also rather dark, wintery ones - are grouped together: Cardamom (a typical ingredient of the spices known as gingerbread or honey cake), juniper (which gives Rappelle-Toi a tart, masculine note and, among other things, prevents the fragrance from turning sweet or feminine) and two kinds of pepper (as a hard counterpart to soft honey; incidentally, it is not traditionally found in gingerbread, even if it is called that).

Others see the gardenia as the centre of the fragrance, indeed Rappelle-Toi perceive it as almost a gardenia soliflor. The fact that it's the honey in my case may be related to the fact that I have hardly any gardenia experience and may not exactly recognize this note (although I have sniffed a few fragrances like Cruel Gardenia by Guerlain once). Strong (unspecific) floral Rappelle-Toi also seems to me, a heavy floral scent, but certainly not suffocating. And one that harmonizes very well with the honey cake.

All in all: Spicy honey germ with a dose of spiciness and congenial flowers. Always lush and powerful, never pompous or oppressive. If I imagine it as a colour, it is brighter than the dark forest honey it smells like: Medium brown shining amber.

The fact that my statement, written about 2 years ago, ends with "For real men" is, of course, a little bit of a wink at this starting point. But it's not wrong either. Au contraire, au contraire! Not too much dosed, in the right season (now) and at the right time of the year and in the right mood (no territory marker for the tough business deal, but also no cuddly pussy scent; rather something for moments of calm, firm, but also a little drifting concentration) no guy needs to feel badly scented with this Artisan Pafumeur. And may grin ad libitum like a honey pie horse.

Top notes- Irritation
The start is fruity, slightly tart and woody. Tangerine with pulp, peel, stump + stem. Or? Looking at the fragrance pyramid, I'm already quite confused. I do not smell that!

Middle: Floral-sweet is slowly caught up gently by incense (woody, smoky, spicy). Light musky powder comes in as well. The sweetness from the honey is nicely aromatic.

Finish: sandalwood sweetened by honey gently accompanied by the reviving top notes. I only discovered the base on the third wear, before that it always kind of escaped me.

I like the fragrance, but it is not enough for the wish list.

Addendum:
Following Meggi's hint, I bit and chewed on a Szechuan pepper seed. Whew, that's where the action is. But yes, it's true, that comes very close to my perception described above.

En Voyage chez l'Artisan Parfumeur: 21- painful memories
Right in the middle of my quarantine, the ceiling falls on my head. Spring cleaning done, basement tidied, coffee machine repaired and slowly as the tasks thin out, the restlessness grows. Time to get back to my notes, shape them into communiqués as I've done a few times the last few days.

Rappelle- Toi, an imperative I'm too happy to obey right now, I realize as I write. Unfortunately, the sample left my hands weeks ago.

The perfume opens with freshly peeled cucumber peel becomes increasingly squeaky green over pepper, tickling the nose. After this short lively forest dance in the top note, it becomes muckeliger, warmer. The scent has rapidly skipped summer, ushered in rainy autumn after vibrant spring. Reminiscent of wet leaves, but remains warmly woody. In the distance, it smells distantly of honeyed water. Heavily diluted, nothing sticky. Reminds me of many of my hikes where I've spent the night very spartanly in the woods. Always dry and comfortable, but around me it often smelled like rain, wet forest floor, and green leaves.
That moment was always the best part of a day of hiking, finally being able to lie down and rest. It's been a few months since those experiences again, but yes Bertrand, I remember.
This fragrance, seemed to belong, at least I thought, to older ladies. It may be because of the geranium. This is also used in fragrances such as "Equipage Géranium" by Hermes, which is traded as a pure men's fragrance, but has for me a very feminine, mature touch. But then in the base, the foliage breaks up, creamy incense and youthful musk flicker light as air over sandalwood, sweeping the rose geranium aside, and I get along with the scent again.
Thank you for reminding me of the freedom of days of hiking and soothing pristine nature.
It is dear to me, but currently it hurts a little.

Thank you for reading my comment

This is not a blue fragrance!
But it's not red either. And it's certainly not yellow! And what about green? It may be that the cardamom adds a small spot of light. But basically, the color spectrum of the perfume is mottled, everything is included that is not brightly neon. There are two types of pepper here, the pink one soft, almost fresh and spicy, and the dark one slightly sharp and cool. Metallically shiny in steel blue - sometimes - not all the way through. What lies in between is matt black.
Then there is juniper, whose diverse spicy aromas fan out kaleidoscopically. The mild parts glow in soft orange, the resinous ones in wood-brown facets. Then there is the blue-violet, which allows the spice to release an almost biting sharpness, which it immediately softens again.
What is even more striking: a cool, almost icy hint of gardenia combines with juniper and the peppers, making everything appear to be covered in speckled hoar frost.
But a dark, slightly smoky forest aroma hovers over everything, which is delicately sweetened with golden forest honey - without being really sweet. Slightly rough even. And as if powdered with sand.
This mélange fascinates and captivates because at times everything seems to be hidden behind frosted glass, only to suddenly give way to a very clear view that brings even the deeply hidden to light. Only to be finely veiled again just as quickly. The forest aroma - versatile - present and hidden - angular and round - a hint of blue (juniper) always in the background. Mysterious? And HOW!!! :-))

Interplay of white flowers, honey and sandalwood reminds of coconut, pepper gives its subdued spiciness. A cheerful scent.
