An unusual and fine summer fragrance
Sebastian sent me a sample. He has a penchant for subtle and transparent, light fragrances. Scents that manage to seem almost simple at first sniff, but then prove to be very artistic and not banal at all. Always exciting, but also always a challenge for my rather straightforward nose.
The fragrance had a rough start with me because a glance at the bottle awakened a righteous anger within me: “Inspired by your life” is written on it. What an arrogant claim! What does my life have to do with you? My life? For months, I've been torn between an increasingly difficult work environment and the desperate attempt to somehow maintain the completely chaotic life of my parents (Mom is demented and Dad, over 90, is maddeningly stubborn). As if that weren't enough: My father-in-law has been diagnosed with aggressive cancer and my mother-in-law's life is currently dissolving into despair. My life? You want to be inspired by that? Not your Ernst!
---
The first spray reveals a very clean and fresh top note; crystal-clear neroli indeed gives a powerful 4711 boost, accompanied briefly by a distinct citrus note, while the mint cools down strongly, yet is just subtle enough to remain in the background. I'm not the biggest fan of neroli or mint, but I must admit: This is a really lovely summer scent.
The vetiver is almost present from the start, and it proves to be a challenge for me for a while, particularly in the phase when the neroli recedes into the background: The mint does something with the vetiver that I personally don't like so much. It is undoubtedly an exciting combination, ice green, cool green, shimmering, oscillating. Another nose would certainly perceive it as “bold and successful” - it bothers me a bit, though.
The heart note, on the other hand, is wonderful: A floating mist of delicate flowers, the somewhat distantly fragrant rose geranium, a hint of airy, powdery violet in the background, a delicate spicy twist. A Sebastian fragrance, without a doubt. Slightly soapy, very ethereal, light, transparent. The vetiver adds a tiny hint of grassy sweetness. Beautiful!
Already now, the fragrance is quite soft; I have to bring my nose close to my wrist. However, my clothing still occasionally sends a gently fragrant message into the nearby surroundings.
Right at the end, it gets exciting again: The fragrance has already spread on the base note couch, the “kashmir wood” (haha! Kashmeran, then, but I quite like its synthetic warmth and delicate sweetness) is quietly humming away, when suddenly I catch a hint of the sharpness and clarity of the neroli from the beginning, right on my skin. Thus, the circle closes. Kashmeran is indeed a pronounced long-distance runner, so the longevity is not bad.
Thank you, Sebastian, for the sample. A fragrance that fits excellently into your collection and should be a peaceful and serene companion on warm summer days.
Even though I wrote, "Everyone needs at least one such fragrance," I think this one is still not it for me. But very, very close.
