The Scent Wasn't the Problem
To be honest: I have no idea what the scent smells like. And neither does my beloved - although he SHOULD know, after all, he became self-employed in 1988 at the age of 21, moved to Geneva, joined a few gentlemen in suits, and tried to sell toilet seat hygiene protective films to drugstores and pharmacies. What does that have to do with the scent? Nothing - but when the protective films didn't work out, they came across more well-dressed gentlemen from a company called Beat Perfume, who wanted to launch the Michael Jackson perfume internationally. So my beloved spent a year and a half going around the world trying to establish exclusive distribution channels.
Oh wait, there is indeed a similarity with the toilet seat protective films: it failed!
Darling was very surprised and amused to find this perfume here today, as he suspects that Michael Jackson's manager still doesn't know that this scent ever existed....
When asked again, he describes it as exotic, fresh, youthful... And that the scent was never really the problem, but rather all the dubious circumstances back then.
Today, he only serves as my personal fragrance advisor - either he says 'fine' or 'no' - maybe it was also a bit about the lack of expertise combined with his youthful enthusiasm for the then sci-fi-looking bottle with holographic images (but shh, hihi!)
Ah yes, the eighties, everything was just a bit more exotic back then...
