I know this fragrance certainly has its fans, and I don't want to deny that it's well crafted. But unfortunately, its fragrance style is just not to my personal taste at all.
What bothers me most is the rather sharp citrus freshness, at least to my nose.
I find it a little too harsh, at times almost synthetic. And yes, sometimes it really does make me think of a toilet block.
That may sound a little mean, but that's simply the association I have.
Above all, Mefisto lacks a certain depth and sophistication for me. It doesn't come across as particularly well-rounded, but rather flat and one-dimensional.
That said, I have absolutely nothing against fresh, citrusy fragrances in general. I do enjoy wearing them, especially in summer.
But then I want that feeling of lightness and ease, too. A fragrance that perhaps brings to mind sunshine, a vacation or a lovely summer's day.
And Mefisto just doesn't do that for me.
Instead of a pleasant, sparkling freshness, what lingers for me is above all this somewhat sharp, citrusy impression.
Of course, all of this is highly subjective. What others may particularly appreciate about Mefisto is exactly what appeals to me less.
I'll certainly use up the bottle I still have. But I definitely won't be buying it again.
There are simply too many other fragrances that I enjoy much more.
All in all, Mefisto is a good example of how a fragrance can be very well made and still not suit your personal taste.
