A beautiful pair of leather shoes
Leather shoes. You could talk for hours about topics on this spectrum; welted or not, Oxford or Derby, brogue or plain, conservative black or making a statement with other colors and so on. On the one hand, it's an exciting topic, because I'm also a fan of attractive leather shoes, but on the other, it evokes memories of a former executive with an affinity for monologues who had little to offer apart from a smart wardrobe.
Chronotope is an American brand, English Shoe Factory is a fairly new release and this much can be revealed, the name was not chosen at random.
The relatively conventional combination of saffron and leather, here intensified by leathery castoreum plus oud, which I would classify as an oud accord, is enhanced by ajwain. For me, this gives the perfume an alcoholic, aromatic note. It is reminiscent of this characteristic cough syrup flair. Which seems logical on closer inspection, keyword thymol.
The leather, although now multiplied by several ingredients, does not dominate everything else, does not impose, but envelops gently but straight and persistently. At first, it is tempting to dismiss this as weak and quiet. But this is far from the case. An unsteady but ever-present breath, intense and dense, yet not distant but expansive, respecting the wearer and performing.
Subtle rubber abrasion, not hot but cold, telling stories. An obscure freshness thanks to Earl Grey tea acts as an accompaniment, tea flavors nuance English Shoe Factory. Many other ingredients are offered up, mostly in the same direction as the protagonists. Here, impressions are woven more densely, woody notes are refined with resinous, spicy characteristics. Despite the carrot seeds, there are no dry moments and the aura remains rich. Further changes are not to be expected, which is in keeping with the fragrance itself. Clear; plain, so to speak, no stormy devotion, rather successively grown familiarity, a more mature, responsible love.
English Shoe Factory is permanently beguiling without wanting to beguile. A finding without having searched. Not zahir, but rationality.
Before I forget: Oxford, cognac, welted and plain.
