Awesome blend
Tabac Vert (Green tobacco) is not what I'd call a strong tobacco fragrance. If you're looking to be rolling in pipe tobacco, you won't find that with Tabac Vert. To me, Tabac Vert is an awesome blend - yes, there's dry tobacco, but well blended with other notes which results in a vintage style, masculine fragrance.

After the initial blast of bergamont, the mix of dry tobacco and cedar appear with a slightly dirty touch. It isn't sour but comes across smooth with no rough edges. I suspect the sandalwood and amber round it out this way. The oakmoss then appears in just the right amount, giving it a masculine and vintage feel. Overall, Mr. Cross has a real winner here that strikes me as very versatile, working in most occasions throughout the year. If you're more of a freshie guy in hot weather, Tabac Vert would still work for you for a night out on a warm summer evening.

Longevity is quite good - I got at least 10 hours out of it and it seems to be eternal on clothes. Projection is more moderate. Tabac Vert is a class act and won't overwhelm. I'm putting it on my shopping list.

Unsung Dark horse winner
Ladies and Gentlemen the winner of the award for perfumer of the years 2000 to 2023 EASILY goes to MANUEL CROSS!! Yes that's correct, Manuel Cross just may be the unsung perfumer IMHO. I own 5 different fragrances from this man and his perfume house appropriately titled Rogue Perfumerie. I intend to purchase more and the 5 that I own are all winners with Tabac Very being one of them. This old school Chypre/Earthy masterpiece takes me way back to a much better place and time for Masculine fragrances. He's not afraid to use All of the raw materials at his disposal and he also often uses REAL OAKMOSS so that's a thumb in the eye of the dangerous and draconian IFRA. The IFRA will not rest until they've destroyed almost all of modern perfumerie. Right now they've only destroyed half but will certainly do more damage with the passage of time. As long as these perfume houses continue to bow to this institution modern perfumerie will continue to be in steep decline, especially in the mainstream category. But I digress. Tabac Vert is a masterpiece of epic proportions with those floral, earthy and animalics mixed in. This is NOT an everyday fragrance and considerable care should be taken on when and where to wear it. I think definitely on a first date but maybe not daily at the office. You be the judge however. Manuel Cross simply does all of the right things and he really has his customers in his heart because of the quality of care that goes into each and every creation he completes. My top 3 from Rogue are Mousse Illuminate, Chypre Siam and Tabac Vert. All 3 are smooth silky and loaded with Sillage and longevity and that's equally impressive during this period of time. If he were the only perfumer left on this planet that would not be the end of the world as I put him in the category with other legends like Bernard Chant and Jean Paul Guerlain. We need more rebellious people in this game but who knows if that'll happen. That's why almost all of my fragrance purchases are Vintage bottles that are so worth it. Tabac Vert reminds me of all of them. Just a great Animalic Chypre.

Classy and gentlemanly
This opens with bergamot and pepper that’s quickly followed by carnation and rose.
Then a beautiful oakmoss, which is the defining characteristic of Rogue’s perfumes. There’s a leathery soap and talcum powder notes that give it a very clean impression.
The green tobacco of the name is not the usual sweet, smokiness of a dried tobacco but a great hay-like note.
Finally, a subtle sandalwood and cedar appears.
Longevity is reasonable but not as good as other Rogue fragrances.
A very refined, gentlemanly scent.

Play It Again Sam
Now this is a scent I could imagine Humphrey Bogart would have worn in that movie Casablanca. It has a charming enigmatic old world sophistication vibe. Just like you have walked out of a classy barbershop in the 1940's.

It opens up with a mentholated bergamot which is soon followed by oakmoss and a slightly honeyed green tobacco. As time moves towards the heart the florals appear right on cue adding a sensual depth to the green moss and tobacco. As we move towards the base after many hours, cedar and sandalwood become more apparent.

All these soft spicy notes are wrapped up in a lovely shaving cream and slight talc accord. And this is the most complex one I have smelled from Rogue. The quality of the ingredients are most impressive and this smells very lovely and is easy to wear.

All in all if you are tired of modern synthetic shallow chemical fragrances and want to smell like a refined old school gentlemen then this is your scent. Wonderful!

SOMETHING VERT
Tabac by name, Vert by nature. Perfumer Manuel Cross has created a whole line free of IFRA restrictions, and this house seems to be an opportunity for perfume lovers to get a taste (or smell) of perfumery as it used to be.

Fizzy, mossy tobacco with menthol becomes a faintly damp sweet pipe tobacco, a big dose of oakmoss, and a dusting of warm spices.

Nice.

A gently soapy and creamy, spicy earthy-woody Chypre, balanced by an uplifting spicy-green opening. Nice oakmoss-tobacco combo! Masculine.

Absolutely fantastic, exactly as labeled. Hot hot summer days and nights breathing in the air.

This has a nice clean soapy element I didn't expect, much nicer imo than all the vanilla dominant tobacco fragrances. Dense soapy chypre.

Timeless and sophisticated. Nuis' comment captures it perfectly. Dark green classic with a stylish, polished aura. Soap is nice here too.
