Knead and Leather for Layering
How I came across the scent, actually very unusual for me - I walked past KDW and looked at the offerings. Those endless fields and shelves of perfume, for which you need a lot of patience and a lot of neutralizing coffee. Nevertheless, by the end, my nose was overwhelmed and withered.
I was looking for a scent that I couldn't quite describe, but I already knew that I could probably only achieve my goal by mixing two scents or layering. And that turned out to be the case in the end. I was searching for a scent of metal, cold, cyberpunk, and futurism. Somehow I got closer to that when I saw the Altered Leather on the shelf. So simple its bottle, so unremarkable yet still attention-grabbing.
I smelled it on the cardboard, in the bottle, and on my skin, and what it offered me surprised me; after so many demanding scents, the Altered Leather impressed with its simplicity. There was nothing that gave me room for speculation, for mystique, or flights of thought. It smelled like pure leather. Like the leather of a new car, like the leather of a vintage leather jacket, like leather. Somewhere also a bit like knead. So vacuum-sealed, so still like outer space.
I quickly found the perfume partner for achieving my goal, the Escentric Molecules Patchouli. Both complement each other in my nose to create a successful blend. I'm curious about what else can be layered with the AL!
In my opinion, it's not such a failed perfume when you see it as a building block, as an ingredient, for achieving your own creations. As a solo performer, the AL is indeed too one-dimensional, as has already been mentioned here, and too characterless.
