After I really liked the regular Tilleul and consider the scent a good companion for rather calm occasions in spring and summer, Friction de Nuit comes along as a fragrance that smells very similar to the original but is a bit more intense. Even though the term "Nuit" appears in the name, the scent can be used both during the day and in the evening. Because this fragrance is simply excellent as well.
The scent:
The scent is almost as similar as with the regular Tilleul. The green notes of the linden blossoms seem to come through faster and stronger, and the lemon has also become a bit stronger in comparison, making the scent start off a bit more intensely than the regular Tilleul.
The linden blossoms are a bit stronger in the heart note, and the scent smells excellently green. Then come the violets, which make the scent slightly stuffy but also a bit sweeter.
However, the scent is a bit less stuffy here. This means it is less floral. When I say stuffy, it always sounds so negative, but I mean the typical floral scent.
You can also smell the hay here, giving you a feeling of being in a somewhat rural area. The mint is a small difference from the original, and perhaps this makes the scent feel a bit fresher and stronger. In any case, it is great and smells quite natural like all the other fragrance notes here as well.
Longevity and sillage:
The longevity is comparable to the original, but because it smells a bit more intense, it seems to last a tick longer. I would also rate the longevity at about eight hours.
The sillage is still rather subtle, but noticeably stronger than the original scent. This one will be easier to perceive, but still won't leave a real scent trail.
The bottle:
In terms of the bottle, there seems to be hardly any difference when compared to the regular Tilleul. But it must also be said that the other fragrances from d’Orsay use the same bottle. So, it is rectangular with rounded corners, no label, and a trapezoidal, chrome-plated cap. Everything is quite nice and well done.
For this scent, I can essentially say exactly the same thing I already wrote about the first Tilleul: The scent gives you the feeling of hiking on a beautiful, sunny day in summer (or of course in spring) under linden trees, while beautiful plants bloom around you, the warm rays of the sun feel really good, and the chirping of the birds makes you smile, possibly causing any lurking creatures to become really wild. However, you can also use the scent well for evening walks when a cool breeze is blowing, insects start to chirp, and lurking creatures look even more threatening with their glowing eyes!
If you don't analyze the scents in detail, you probably won't notice a real difference, as they are very similar. But I find that Friction de Nuit smells a bit better. It comes across as simply stronger and greener, everything is more intense, and the floral aspect is a tad less stuffy. Additionally, it is sweeter, though hardly noticeable, but it seemed sweeter to me, which might be due to the violets.
Unfortunately, the longevity here is also quite short at about three to four hours, so it then smells more subdued (hence actually about eight hours), but you can always reapply.
It is probably a matter of taste which scent one prefers, but especially for spring and summer, you can't go wrong with either fragrance. However, one should know that these scents are not perfumes for going out, but rather serve as beautiful daytime scents, suitable for walking, etc.
Very accurately described! I find the Nuit more beautiful than the first Tilleul; it’s softer, fresher, and for me, it doesn’t have that slight musty note (which you describe as stuffy) that I perceive in the first one. Linden trophy!
