Just to Sink In
So, three hours ago I fished a little vial from the travel package "Samples on Tour".
It was "Cielle". I dabbed it on. Immediately, something sharp and piercing spread, even a bit green and totally rancid smelling, that really came "over me". Disgusting! A tipped scent.
It's no longer available on the DSH homepage.
Right after that, my skin smelled of civet and nasty old musk and rancid resins, but also bitter.
Now I had a totally old rancid smell on my skin.
I washed it off immediately. But since it's a "natural" chypre, I suspect a residue remains on my skin. It now smells like an old, worn piece of clothing that has been packed into a box or suitcase and placed in the attic. When you take the garment out after 20 years with the decayed fabric, you can still smell a bit of the rancid resins, the old musk, and the "matured" civet, but only very faintly.
I'm writing this comment because I find it pointless to send such an old fragrance for testing when it has only been bottled in a small vial. Air and also contact with skin inevitably cause such a scent to tip over.
I know this from my initially wonderfully scented vintage minis in bulk bottles. They all smell old by now. I should have used them up within a few weeks. Especially the real vintages do not tolerate that.
If you do, you have to transfer them with a tube or a disposable syringe into a spray bottle; then it might work. I did that with "Je Reviens". This way, I can really use it up.
But "Cielle" should only be purchased in the original bottle, and if it should still be intact, nothing should be decanted from it to let others partake.
It's well-meaning and kind, but it's not a good idea.
