The strength of vulnerability...that is Liu
As far as all comparisons to N°5 Eau de Parfum go, I'd say that Chanel No 5 is a suit and pearl necklace and Liu Eau de Parfum is a flowing dress.
Apart from that, in Liu the guerlinade is so distinct that, in my opnion, the comparison doesn't do Liu any justice.
Liu may be more like N°5 Eau Première but with better performance.

Experiencing Liu is quite a journey: At first opening, Liu's Guerlinade winks at you, like a faint memory of L'Heure Bleue, almost to cheer up this melancholy baby that come's to mind.
In the mean time aldehydes play hide and seek behind a veil of creamy powder, along with some bergamot, slightly citrusy.

Then you may wonder where Liu went...is she still there? Oh no! already faded? Please no!
You will sniff your skin and worry about sillage and strength...

But....just as you think: 'Well what the heck, it is what it is...', Liu will reveal herself with all of her aldehydes, taking of her powdery veil and dress you with the most beautyful, pastel, skin coloured scent and leave you smiling.

It's true: Liu becomes stronger on skin and by the hour, she will project only then, when she has become a skin-scent asif she needs the warmth of your skin to come out of her shell. Never experienced a scent and sillage this way.
The scent on your skin has also become stronger then, the guerlinade still there, but ever so powdery/soapy and clean.

The strength of vulnerability...that is Liu.

Soapy blossoms in midsummer
only if you feel like reading, otherwise I'll make a TDLR below and summarize it :D

Dear Liu,

we've met a few times and thought nothing of it. "huh...you're...special and kind of old-fashioned,. That won't work with us. I'm more into perfumes my own age," I thought to myself at the time. You're older than me and wiser, and you probably thought I should just give it time. And even if we never like each other, that's perfectly okay. Not every lid fits the pot. You can't smell every person, because everyone is special and a little different.
But ME and the word "old-fashioned"? Unimaginable. I love vintage, everything vintage, including furniture and torn books (without book bugs and always with disinfectant wipes on top, please).
But what I knew then, and still know today, is that humans are the true phoenixes. Our age is not determined by our years, although our knees hurt, we could feel old at 16 and younger at 45. In the same way, one day we can suddenly let the child in us play and live a little until it gets tired or let the old man rant a little. And so I didn't go through anything, but on that one day you weren't mine and I wasn't yours.

Fast forward, I got a craving for soapy and thought I'd put you back on the ML. Possibly thinking of meeting you again. And look, got an encore from a dear perfumer. Then out into the not-so-fresh summer air and put the Liu on my sleeves. Thinking nothing of it, just wearing it spontaneously, instead of testing you.

As I walked along the muggy, sticky avenues of the suburbs at 32°C, I was suddenly hit by a fresh breeze. It was as if I had stopped for a moment under freshly blossomed spring trees and then washed my face and hands with cold water and soap. This pleasant smell kept coming back and interrupting my daydreaming. At some point I had to press pause because the scent simply demanded far too much attention from me and I liked it better than what I had put together in my mind's eye. I wonder what perfume that was? It feels so good right now. I feel like a white, genuine angel that has just fluttered by from the centrifuge. A quick sniff of my sleeve and then I remembered that it was Liu, a small soap that rests on a large round stone in the middle of a summery flower meadow, and yet always remains cold and pristine clean. And so a bottle had to move in.
TDLR, for the impatient: I tested Liu and went for a walk on a hot summer's day. This was super cooling but in a wonderfully elegant way and I wish I had at least worn the blouse instead of so sporty but what the heck. Then I flew away in a white bubble.
edit: I find Liu very similar to Chanel 5 (perfume), but at the same time Liu is completely different. Mood-lifting and much more cheerful, more luminous.

Galadriel's luminous essence
When I want to feel like an elven queen clad in white robes, striding through sunlit arcades in Rivendell while the sound of a waterfall resounds in the distance, I wear Liu. Between dreamland and reality in a state of deliberate indulgence in a state of longing for a reality of all-encompassing peace; with yourself, the world and the people around you.
Perfection, honor, sublimity, holiness, grace, humility. Something rare, seemingly lost in this world...more precious than any gemstone; a courageous heart. Courage to be vulnerable, courage to resist injustice, courage to speak the truth. The hope for good in the face of suffering. The feelings a fragrance can trigger never ceases to amaze me. I have rarely experienced such delicately combined fragrances and the perfume resembles the art of silk embroidery that has been worked on for years. No fragrance stands out. Every edge and corner has been sanded down and polished smooth. Together, they create a fragrance that seems to have been inspired in its completeness.
Aldehydes for beginners with ultra-soft citrus gently launch the throbbing floral-powdery chypre heart on the vanilla-amber-woody bed. Rose, iris, jasmine, orange blossom and ylang ylang are also present. Not old-fashioned, not granny, not rancid make-up bag. No, the fragrance seems surprisingly modern to me. Gentle, airy, well-groomed, fragrant, powdery, pure and clearly feminine. I like the fact that I can't smell any specific spices. In other Guerlain women's fragrances, I have occasionally been bothered by an overly strong clove or aniseed note. For me, this one is like the prototype women's fragrance and embodies femininity like hardly any other fragrance. No pink, squeaky-sweet girly stuff. No, this one has elegance, class, style and oakmoss; but not a hint too much. No attention-grabbing sillage, no oppulence, no higher, louder, further, but a noble understatement with staying power. You get outstanding quality at a good price here.
This type of fragrance reminds me of Chanel No5 Eau Première. Not so much the No5 Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette, as these have a little more spiciness and warmth for me. This fragrance is certainly inspired by Chanel's No5 concept, but not copied and if it is, Jacques Guerlain has perfected it for my taste.
I am delighted to have discovered this as yet unknown treasure and am thrilled to have found something in the chypre genre that I like so much.

Moderately aldehydic floral base with a lipsticky-powdery presence and ashy white florals. Seriously elegant.

If you like N°5 Eau Première , this comes close, but has better sillage and longevity. At least on my skin.
