With orris and iris, deer musk has to be my favourite note in perfumery. There’s just nothing else that pulls me so completely out of the mundane. Musk has this rare ability to blur the line between the human and the divine, and that’s exactly why I keep exploring it, in all its origins and forms.
The fact that Ensar and a few other houses have access to the long-extinct Tonkin musk feels almost unreal like bottling a historical relic. Are we 100% sure there’s actual Tonkin musk in there? God knows. But one thing’s certain: the musk in this perfume, and in EO2 Tonkin stands apart from the Siberian, Mongolian, or Kashmiri varieties.
Tonkin musk isn’t just a perfume, it’s a smell. It sits somewhere between exoticism and dandy refinement, a whisper of old-world luxury meeting something deeply primal.
Here, it’s beautifully elevated with floral touches, soft green nuances, creamy sandalwood, and that unmistakable skin-like effect that only true musk can create. It feels carnal, sensual, profoundly human, not dirty, but still deliciously animalic.
A true standout from @ensar.oud , and a reminder that he’s one of the few modern perfumers daring enough to use such outrageous ingredients for our pure, unapologetic hedonistic pleasure.
