More Sex in a Bottle
Avon is what you might call a victim of its own success -- the sheer ubiquity of its products over several generations has cheapened the company's image in the minds of many American women. In spite of its mass-market reputation, however, Avon has issued many fine fragrances over the years; To a Wild Rose is one. The bottle I own, a vintage cologne, looks just like the one in the above picture, and it packs a punch like vintage Femme Rochas. That's it's closest cognate, I reckon; like "Femme," "Rose" is a fruity chypre, a dirty-sexy perfume for unafraid, past their prime females. Want some cheap thrills? Into vintage, skanky fragrances? You can find the milk glass bottle above, which holds 2 ounces, for around 5 bucks on ebay.

Moosyrose, powdery
Green moss and red roses in the grass, that's how I would describe this scent. And the best part: flea market find, 50 ml, 5 euros. Top note slightly damaged, the rest completely fine. And: When the production of the "To a Wild Rose" perfume was discontinued, I was only 10 years old, having no idea about fragrances, except for my grandma's "Tosca" and my mother's "Nonchalance." Now, a long-discontinued vintage scent comes rushing towards me, and it fully matches my taste. A floral chypre, as it should be. Grass scent, very green at the beginning, a lot of dark rose and a bit of iris, very powdery and delicate, and a whole bunch of the then-unrestricted oak moss, very clearly detectable... The scent is almost "fat" and long-lasting (for an Eau de Cologne???) it says on the bottle and packaging. From the fifties to the early seventies - a feel-good forest walk - rose garden scent... Maybe soon an addition to today's impression...

Wonderful nostalgic rose chypre with lots of moss and powdery iris woods.
Deep inside, fine aldehydes and earthy patchouli. SO GOOD!

Dark rose, grasses, and oak moss.
Dark and lovely at the same time.
A beautiful vintage scent with quite good longevity for a cologne.
