Vamos Harry Lehmann

"Vamos" is once again one of those fragrances by Lehmann that captivates me with its subtle elegance, wearability, and a certain grandeur despite its modesty. Similar to "Springfield," "Vamos" is an exceedingly artistic little perfume that strikes a balance between a touch of eccentricity and great wearability with remarkable ease.

"Vamos" opens both citrusy and quite floral - I would therefore - even though it is not indicated in the pyramid - guess bergamot. A delicate green spiciness is present right from the start. This silky green spiciness gradually becomes more pronounced, but I still smell a gentle floral note. Cumin has an ethereal rosy quality in its scent - is that it? Vetiver for sure - is that it? Sandalwood as well - is that it? Over it all lies a fine hint of soft balsamic sweetness. And beneath it, fluffy moss, a bit overgrown with dew. A touch of damp earth, along with warm wood - when I close my eyes, I am in a spring forest, sun-drenched, the anemones nodding cheerfully.

Perhaps the scent becomes a bit woodier and possibly a bit smokier over the hours, but it remains true to itself the whole time: Silky green, gently floral, subtly sweet, and always transparent, soft and gently glowing. Not a loud fragrance - but always noticeable.

Old school? Maybe.
Outdated? NOT AT ALL.
Timeless? Absolutely!

"Vamos" is a dreamy everyday companion with typical Lehmann durability and balanced sillage, suitable for both women and men, and for us, it's a 100% repurchase candidate, as my husband loves it just as much as I do and uses it with enthusiasm.

Unfortunately, Vamos had to be revised in the autumn of 2020. I have both versions here (a big thank you to KarateArwen), the fragrance before and after the reformulation, and I am now finding it extremely difficult to say anything bad about the "after." In principle, it is a different scent that vaguely reminds me of the old Vamos. Not bad by the way. But what enchanted me so much, those delicate sweet resin notes, that silkiness, that transparency, that light, that green-golden vetiver float, and of course that deep, spicy oakmoss note: All gone. And therefore: Strike everything I wrote above, at least for the version from autumn 2020.

And the new Vamos? A solid scent, more masculine than the old V, starts with an unpleasant grapefruit freshness/bitter note that the old one never had. Unusual, unexpected, but not bad; I wait longer for the vetiver, which eventually comes, but unfortunately weaker than before. Overall, the scent is a bit duller, not quite as transparent, somewhat sluggish. And it lasts significantly less. I know, a problem from the oakmoss/fixative prohibition corner, probably hardly changeable. No blame to Mr. Lehmann, I think he has made the best of the idea "Vamos" under the given circumstances. But still, infinitely sad.

And I also find it difficult to assess; I certainly wouldn't rate the new one with a 9 anymore. I'm still thinking about it...
