Rosa Ataraxis III: Black Tripura Hunayn 2025

I’ve never liked rose—in fact, I used to hate it… or at least I thought so, until I smelled Black Tripura.

The blend of different roses and their extractions, carried by a dark, salty ambergris opening that later gives way to a deep and mysterious Tripura oud, is truly breathtaking, even for me.

One thing I’ve noticed in Hunayn’s creations is their incredible body and longevity: these are full, kaleidoscopic perfumes that truly embody the idea of Oriental fragrances with a capital O.

For lovers of the classic rose–oud pairing, this composition turns it completely upside down and reinvents it.

Compared to its lighter sister Rosa Ataraxis III: Black Rose , the greater use of ambergris and Tripura oud here gives it a distinctly richer and darker twist. The rose blend is as elegant and regal as its sister, but here it is more... dark.
What I really like about this blend is the continuous variation in the olfactory profiles of the different roses and their different extractions. Every time its trail arrives, you perceive the roses differently, but always this this bold dark ambergris-oud background.
It can truly be described as a sultan's perfume. A regal rose fit for a king.
A veil of spices and resins warms it even more and gives dimension to the fragrance, which has excellent longevity and medium sillage. Not at all animalic and always wearable, even on special occasions.

It is not a crowd-pleasing sweet rose fragrance, instead, it is a highly mature, dominant, spicy rose-oud scent.

The ambergris is prominent, and the musk doesn’t feel powdery. On the other hand, sandalwood makes the base a little bit soft and creamy.

Overall, the combination of rose, black ambergris, black musk, and oud creates a beautiful dark rose fragrance

Another rose-oud? Well yeah, but no sir! Unique and outstanding, a mystic conspiracy of black rose/black oud/black ambergris.

If this was the only fragrance I was left with for eternity, I would consider myself lucky. In a darkened inner city venue, a passionate tango unfolds between the creamy dark rose and the deep and hypnotizing Tripura oud. This oud in the top is so intense and lovely, I cant help feeling a bit overwhelemd - in the best way possible. The ambergris and musk follow the composition like a shadow, keeping it lifted and complex.

What struck me the most, is the evolving nature of this scent. One hour in, it seems to have changed radically, while remaining true to it’s unique oud core. The spices become more prominent and initiate their own dance with the woody notes of the base. Breathtaking olfactory journey on it’s own.

A black-tinged rose, might be gothic?

The rose note itself is delicate and almost unadulterated.

It begins with the usual manure-like Hindi oud that fortunately loses its "stinky" edge very quickly. After about 10 minutes it leaves behind the classic notes of a quality oud:
leather, a touch of incense, animalic, hay and dried leaves and massive body.
The composition is rounded by saffron and Indian sandalwood, which both smooth out its rough edges.
The ambergris, on the other hand, provides its characteristic musky and slightly salty note with savory tones that blend perfectly with the rest.

The rose paired with geranium continues to permeate throughout almost the entire duration of the fragrance, toning down and oxigenating a composition that would otherwise have been too dark and closed.

Overall, the fragrance is elegant and regal, yet a bit raw, which in this case is a compliment because it gives it character.

It's not my favorite Oud and Rose, but all in all, the fragrance perfectly executes its intended purpose, including its name.
