Flankermania ... now also at Lagerfeld?
My first review here on Parfumo was about "Lagerfeld Cologne/Classic"
This fragrance is my signature scent, as it evokes the most emotional memories.
So I was naturally curious when a flanker was announced...
When I saw that it was available at DM, I immediately had my wife pick it up for me. At first, the two statements had put me off... but as always, I prefer to form my own opinion.
My impression:
I wore the fragrance in a "full body test" and my impression is as follows.
As the fragrance pyramid shows, this is a woody scent with a linear progression. Sandalwood and cedarwood are dominant here, which is why I also get these "pencil shaving" vibes.
It directly reminds me of two fragrances with a similar DNA (wood):
- Montana Graphite
- Mauboussin Une Histoire d'Homme Irrésistible
Both work with these woods, and Montana Graphite is the closest to Lagerfeld Classic Grey.
These three fragrances have one thing in common for me... they seem very "weak" in terms of sillage. Other people, however, do perceive them...
If you spray the fragrance under your shirt on your chest, it develops into this warm woody scent with a slight vanilla sweetness... still noticeable after 3-4 hours, but rather a skin-close scent.
My conclusion:
I didn't expect a true OG flanker, and "Grey" has nothing in common with the OG DNA. As an independent fragrance, it would be better positioned in the market.
It is a woody-spicy scent that, in my opinion, doesn't clash anywhere, but also doesn't make you stand out from the crowd.
But do you expect that from a 20-euro drugstore fragrance?
The times of KL Homme & Co. are (unfortunately) over... but not just at Lagerfeld.
Still, it doesn't deserve such negative reviews, just my 50 cents.
