Soul Swinging in a Safe (Fragrance) Harbor
During our first year of life, we begin to gradually detach ourselves from the originally symbiotic closeness to our primary caregiver, taking small steps to explore our immediate surroundings and then further afield.
After these excursions into our environment, we return to the "safe harbor." We make physical or at least eye contact with our caregiver and can find calm in the familiar closeness, processing our experiences.
This interplay, which I like to call the comfort and stretch zone, continues throughout our lives.
Without venturing into new territory and facing challenges, no development occurs, and without a familiar and safe comfort zone, there is no relaxation.
What does this have to do with "My Muse"?
I had the thought that in my fragrance socialization and my "fragrance-wearing behavior," there is also this interplay between the familiar and comfortable on one hand and the new, sometimes demanding, on the other.
Starting with vanilla scents, followed by sweet rose fragrances, I gradually ventured into scent areas that were quite experimental for me. Thus, fragrances have also found their way into my collection that don't fit every day, for which I need to be in a special mood, and that demand my attention to a certain extent.
This is probably also part of the explanation for why, after some satisfying time with my fine collection, I keep reaching out for something new. Taken to the extreme, this pursuit of the unknown can even lead to a blind purchase.
So there are fragrances that challenge me in a certain way (positively) and those that bring me more to myself.
"My Muse" clearly fulfills the criteria of a "safe fragrance harbor" for me, as you might guess.
It has been described in quite favorable statements as "unexciting, colorless, and tensionless, and already known." YES, that's exactly how it is, and in this case, that's just right.
Nothing foreign irritates my nose here, no tension between competing components demands my attention, and there is no disturbance to be navigated before I approach the pleasant scent.
The fragrance drops anchor directly in the bay of my inner calm and muse, leading to a sense of arrival within myself, to simply being and feeling good.
Although I also felt the sense of familiarity immediately, I can't think of a direct fragrance twin. It is probably more an inkling of a familiar feeling than the certainty of dealing with something known.
"My Muse" starts with a minimal dose of aldehydes, just enough to give me a sense of orientation in the sense of "hello, here I am."
Immediately following, a cocoon of pleasant scent wraps around me. Subtly woven into it are delicate flowers of slightly sweet-fruity roses. Violet and jasmine, which are listed in the pyramid, I wouldn't have named, but they must already be present in the scent fabric. The violet is by no means dry-dusty or nostalgic, and the jasmine is absolutely not indolic or stinky. I would have rather guessed iris and a little lily of the valley. Whatever other flowers are included, they ensure that it is neither a distinct rose scent nor an opulent floral scent.
A hint of powdery cinnamon, almonds, and a fine resin note provide a subtly spicy oriental topping. Underneath it all is a creamy vanilla and musk blanket.
This wonderful fragrance immediately unfolds its full aroma and doesn't change much over time. Nevertheless, it never bores me, perhaps because sometimes one note or another comes to the forefront a bit more without being intrusive.
I can simply fall into this scent and let my soul swing. However, it is not a cuddly scent in the classic sense that you enjoy better alone at home on the sofa. For me, it is a creamy-elegant fragrance that I can wear well and take a piece of "safe harbor" with me when I face the demands of everyday life.
Longevity and sillage are very okay for me. I can perceive the fragrance well for hours.
The bottle is of high quality with a finely dosable sprayer. It has a slight gold-iridescent and semi-opaque appearance and is not as khaki-green as the pictures might suggest.
I received "My Muse" some time ago in the form of a sample from a dear friend to test. Since then, I have been on the lookout for it, but it seems to be not so easily obtainable in Europe.
Thanks to a perfumer here, who apparently also offers other Amado fragrances at a very fair price in the souk, I have finally found it and am now a happy owner of a bottle along with a "mobile safe fragrance harbor."
