The Girl and the Sea
The title of this review is meant to evoke a postcard from an idyllic coastal town.
This fragrance is perceived very differently. Every review I have read sounds different.
For me, it is a bright and airy combination of ripe pear, yellow rosebuds (which are slightly open, enough to hint at the sweet-fresh green scent) and fine incense; in the dry-down, a touch of powdery, slightly peppery iris, and barely hinted grapefruit bitterness, all rather one-dimensional but interesting and not boring at all. These notes blend like the aromas in a southern market in midsummer - ripe fruit, green-sweet, slightly overheated flowers, spices, freshly processed wood, ... a bit of dust. Summery and fine, without coming across as really fresh or citrusy. I can't sense anything musty here.
I envision Laskarina as the first fragrance for a young girl (as a first name it could suit her), wearing a white sun hat and a dress with colorful polka dots, walking alone, singing her youthful dreams, towards a beach near the market, where the breeze flutters her light dress. Quite feminine with good longevity and discreet sillage.

Why?
This is one of the most boring things I have ever smelled. It is sweet, it is floral, it is nonspecific. Nothing stands out, I can't identify any of the notes, except maybe something rosy. I smell no bergamot, no grapefruit, no pink pepper, and no incense. Also no pear, unless "pear sorbet" refers to something like Del-Monte-Williams-Christ canned fruit. But even then, there's more sugar syrup than fruit here. As I said: There is something rosy. Unfortunately, I am not familiar enough with the pyramid candidates iris and ambro-XY and orange blossom - my nose still needs to train on typical reference scents.

For me, this is a fragrance that does nothing wrong, but also nothing right. It is like pictures in a doctor's waiting room: pleasing, uncontroversial, lowest common denominator, banal. Laskarina is not cheap. If I had bought the bottle instead of just getting a sample, I would feel like I had purchased an expensive Louvre ticket, only to end up in the IKEA poster section.

Why does one produce something like this in the perfume niche instead of for deodorant and fabric softener?
And is Laskarina high-priced because the ingredients were sourced sustainably, fairly, and skillfully? If so, it is a pity that nothing more exciting was made from them. Sustainable, fair, and skillfully can also be found in Weleda deodorant or organic essential oils.

I tested a 1.5 ml sample, and every time I smelled it on skin or paper, my first thought was: Wow, how boring, how cookie-cutter, like the class crush from the parallel class. Admittedly: My novice nose is probably missing all kinds of craftsmanship and subtleties here - but how quiet would it be in the perfume forest if only the experienced birds were chirping?

In short: I would find a bold fragrance that misses the mark much more interesting than this sweet-floral blah.

After the watery-fruity start, synthetic and shallow woody notes successfully try to suppress the flowers. Nothing special.

Laskarina smells like real pear to me, slightly sweet, the pear note never disappears even though it's only mentioned in the top notes.

Fruity sweet pear sorbet with a splash of grapefruit. The first rays of sunshine, the rose garden is blooming. The pepper adds the spice. Great!

A one-dimensional, slightly musty wood scent with no changes at all. I don't smell anything from the pyramid. Doesn't bother me further.

Top note nonexistent, but woody rose with a hint of powdery iris. Frankincense + pepper add spice and a touch of the Orient. Not sweet/not cloying.
