A Few Little Indulgences
Shawn sits on his porch and looks out into the garden. The sun has just set. A faint golden glow lingers on the horizon. It is still warm from the day. The doctor told him two weeks ago that he needs to change his life. The values are not good, more exercise, reduce the indulgences.
On the table beside him are his reduced indulgences for the evening. First, he takes a piece of marzipan covered in bitter chocolate. Just one piece, it must be savored, it’s gone far too quickly. Along with it, a small sip of bourbon. It is warm and soft, like liquid gold. Toffee and vanilla resonate, along with a fruity sweetness. Perfect to conclude the day. Finally, the pipe. Freshly packed with the finest Virginia tobacco, slightly moist and spicy. Longingly, he holds it to his nose and inhales deeply. He is not allowed to light it. But he can smell it and chew on it a bit, at least he is allowed that. That and occasionally sip from his little glass of whiskey.
It is still warm, but it is getting cooler. Soon Shawn will go inside and light the fire in the fireplace. For now, however, he still enjoys his little indulgence…

What wouldn’t one do for health, but having no indulgences in life is not a solution either - perhaps this fragrance as a substitute?
Treachery starts off very intensely with a strong marzipan note, vanilla, and dark cocoa. It is very, very sweet; so sweet that I already feel a slight urge to escape (which often kicks in early with sweet fragrances). A good splash of whiskey comes in right away. Bourbon, warm, strong, and also sweet. Spicy notes are already recognizable in the background.
Fortunately, the sweetness quickly diminishes a bit, and marzipan and cocoa fade into the background while the bourbon takes over. It does not smell like it was just poured from the bottle, but rather like the empty glass from last night. The aroma is still recognizable, but muted, all sharp and alcoholic notes have receded. Spicy tobacco comes in, slightly moist, perhaps even a bit green. After an hour, I think I briefly notice fruity notes, but they are very much in the background, where they fit well and do not disturb. Not much happens anymore, the whiskey becomes weaker, while the tobacco gets stronger, and in the base, vanilla comes back in more prominently. It is sweet, but still bearable.
The sillage is quite remarkable in the first 30 minutes for an extrait, but then quickly retreats. The longevity is good, easily lasting 8 hours. For fans of sweet tobacco fragrances and gourmands, it is an absolute recommendation; for me, after the initial urge to escape, at least it is a very good fragrance that I just don’t want to wear.
It is not a substitute for a few little indulgences in life for me; I forgo the pipe and instead take a piece of dark chocolate with my bourbon...
