Mysterious and captivating coffee
Café Mystique lives up to its name. The sulfuric coffee note establishes itself at the outset as a top note. It is listed as "kopi luwak" coffee, which is the infamous coffee that is partially digested by the civet and harvested from its waste. It is joined by its common companion in perfumery, cardamom. But the real star and the note responsible for Café Mystique's mysterious and enigmatic nature is the floral accord, made up of ylang-ylang and frangipani, two gorgeous tropical flowers that are an unexpected surprise in the spicy coffee-dominated fragrance. I think the idea here was to recreate the tropical setting of the Indonesian coffee, and it is done beautifully.

The labdanum, incense, myrrh, beeswax and vanilla create a sweet, resinous bed for the coffee, spices and florals to further interact. The drydown is a woody vetiver/oud that softens and rounds out the fragrance. Very unique, masterfully crafted and blended. The best out of Maksim's first three releases for me.

A Spiced, Floral, and Deep Coffee
Café Mystique is not your typical coffee fragrance. Here, coffee plays a supporting role in a much broader and more refined composition, where spices and exotic florals take center stage.

The opening is vibrant and slightly sharp, with black pepper and Calabrian bergamot setting the stage for a spicy, captivating heart. The star of the show? Without a doubt, the Guatemalan cardamom, which, blended with frangipani and ylang-ylang, creates a warm, sensual, and enveloping trail.

More than a café scent, this feels like being in front of a steaming cup of Turkish coffee—spiced, sweet, and aromatic—served slowly in a space rich with atmosphere and tradition.

A fragrance that is truly well-crafted, original, seductive, and deep.

That's something very good !
Nothing has piqued my interest like this in a long time. In a sea full of weekly releases and mediocrity, I finally feel genuine excitement here. The aroma of Kopi Luwak coffee—though I've never tried it—makes me believe the author captured the brewing process quite well. That first warm hit as the temperature rises.

This is how the scent opens: warm, bold, and coffee-like—I'm quite impressed. Unfortunately, this impression fades rather quickly, and the coffee note lingers far in the background, overshadowed by a rather complex base. Over time, the fragrance evolves into a rich, incense-like, resinous character. It somewhat reminds me of Golden Serenade by Rasquineta, but without the styrax and smokiness. It feels less sweet and more intricate.

The fragrance evolves intensely, gradually gaining a subtle sweetness, thanks to ylang-ylang and plumeria.
Siam Oud is distinctive, yet its presence is quite minimal. Similarly, the animalic aspects are there, but so faint that even those who usually avoid such notes will be pleased. One of the better releases of the year.

Florals and resinous mystique
The fragrance opens with a sophisticated interplay of freshly brewed coffee and bright, citrusy bergamot, creating an intriguing introduction that unfortunately fades quickly. Almost immediately, an opulent wave of ylang ylang bursts forth, its rich, creamy floridity commanding attention before seamlessly merging with the exotic, honeyed allure of frangipani. As the fragrance evolves, a warm, resinous sweetness emerges. The base is deep and elegant, with a beautifully balanced agarwood accord adding a touch of mystique and warmth. While coffee makes a fleeting but intriguing appearance, the true essence of this fragrance lies in its harmonious blend of florals and resins, creating a captivating and sophisticated olfactory symphony.
Overall nice fragnance.

Not only Coffee
And here the pupil surpasses (perhaps) the master and Dad.
It opens with a hint of unroasted green coffee bean (imagine the smell of the bean without the smoky burnt part) driven by pepper. Then magic happens.
The Ylang-Frangipane-cardamom accord here is something sensational. The Ylang with its tropical and at times fruity scents is calmed by the dustiness of the frangipane and the whole made aromatic and spicy by the Cardamom which, with the initial coffee, is something spectacular.
To back it all up, one can distinctly smell the Olibanum with the more resinous Myrrh and the Beeswax with the sweeter Thai Oud (perhaps helped by a whiff of Vanilla).
As time passes on the skin, the woody-resinous and aromatic mix remains.
I liked it very much. Bravo Max.

Despite being similar to his father's masterpieces this stands out well on its own retaining qualities of B's bests.
