Boozy Cohiba
Sophisticated, rich, deep fragrance with a dry blond tobacco, boozy and spicy with a healthy dose of warm cocoa and vanilla - based on amber base and soft suede leather.

More like Hans Hendley's Bourbon than Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanilla as has been heralded by other reviewers.

Raw material and good quality as required by the brand itself.
Les Indémodables brand have access to original ingredients extracted in the laboratory of the Atelier Français Des Matière using innovative ecological techniques that result in ingredients with exquisite and specific qualities.
If we value this quality of the raw material, the price is partially justified.

It is a smooth fragrance, almost discreet and with moderate projection. After 1 to 2 hours it is almost a “scent skin” but lasting about 10 hours.

The interpretation of vanilla is interesting because the usual synthetic/artificial vanilla is not used and instead an accord is achieved with the aroma of vanilla pods that are broken by hand. It's dark sweetish and a gourmand that doesn't feel like a gourmand.

Complex composition and with a very well achieved balance, nothing linear.

I noticed that if we exaggerate the amount of sprays we muffle the multifaceted aspects of this perfume.
With a few sprays, we feel better the warm breeze of a beautiful Cohiba exhaling from our skin while enjoying a crème brûlée with burnt sugar.

With direct entry in the Top 10 of perfumes with a Tobacco note.

Some things are simply good
Of course, if you are looking for a very unique and "never smelled before" scent, Vanille Havane will not be your perfume.

It does have a very special, old school but classy character which you can also find in Ambre Sultan from Serge Lutens, Sorriso from Profumum Roma or even Mitzah from DIOR.

For the proud price of 220€ for 50ml, it should be a bit more creative, if you ask me .. I do not have any desires left unfullfiled by Ambre Sultan which will cost maximum 100€ Retail for the 50ml, so the price might be a bit of a tabu, to be honest.

If you are a big fan of the ROJA Enigma and a bit of patience is also one of your qualities, you might allow Vanille Havane to grow on you in dry-down, because after the "i smelled before" start, it does go into a very sexy "Enigma" like without the cherry coke vibe.

I do not feel any tobacco, as others are mentioning below and as a similar Tobacco Vanille this is not, if you ask my nose. Thank you for watching !

Artisanal style, masterfully made, much more than Vanilla scent
First impression: This is a really dark scent in general, the cocoa is really the black raw cocoa without any sweetness, it is mixed with rich aromatic cognac and a little too much spices thrown in. The vanilla is the darkest and most masculine I've ever tried. The thick smoke of a Cuban cigar smoked for 3 hours hovers around all of this, and the aroma of dark, thick leather comes to the nose from the old Chesterfield leather sofa.

The scent and the mixture are really well and qualitatively made, but first it feels completely impossible to even think that I would use it. I feel that it takes too long to evolve to that best moment, the best part of the scent. It is impossible to notice the sweetness until after about an hour and towards the end, when the scent is at its sweetest, the other aromas start to be quite weak.

It’s truly an experience to wear this perfume. The difficulty of the scent is that it is infinitely deep, dark and strong in the first part of the life cycle and infinitely easy, sweet, plain and a little bit boring in the second half. I like complex scents, but it's hard to wear the scent which has two totally different personalities. In many very complex fragrances, the different phases merge smoothly and slowly together, and so they do nicely here as well, but the nature of the fragrance changes completely in the middle. In the case of this fragrance, I would rather choose a linear fragrance which is straight away in the beginning of the second half. There is an appropriate amount of darkness, cocoa, fruity rum, deep vanilla, mysterious smokiness and sweetness. On the other hand, if the scent was like that, it wouldn't be unique, because many of them have already been made. So this is supposed to be an artisanal fragrance with a very mind-blowing opening and a delicious, slightly seductive aroma after a couple of hours, depending on the warmth of the skin and air.

I realised that the biggest problem with this is pre-expectations - at least I imagined this to be a rich vanilla scent. Of course, “Havane” tells me that there is tobacco and darkness, but the beginning of the scent has been made very difficult for everyone else, except for those who are used to natural scents that really take time to develop. I also love it when the vanilla is thick and creamy. There's no creaminess here at all, but stickiness and syrupy thickness appear in the middle phase of the fragrance. That's when the tender sweet fruitiness comes floating to the fore. If you could skip the first hour completely, I think this would definitely have a bigger audience.

In conclusion, Vanille Havane is very skillfully made. For me, these kinds of scents are not challenging. I just want to emphasize in my review that the experience will certainly be difficult and maybe unpleasant for a more hasty tester. This needs time, passion and love. In my opinion, the beginning of the scent can be compared to (as a level of the challenge, not how it smells, and without Oud of course) for example, Sayat Nova Extrait de Parfum or Lao Oud Extrait de Parfum . Otherwise, the texture and style of the fragrance reminds me of Plum Japonais and Plum in Cognac .

The scent described in few words:
(First half) Spicy, Dark Cacao, Rum, Tobacco, Amber, Woody
(Second half) Vanilla, Sweet, Fruity
This is not gourmand imo. The scent is totally unisex after the first 1-2 hours but the beginning is masculine. The sillage and projection are moderate and the longevity is 8-10 hours.

Thank you for reading and I hope you liked my review.

What Tobacco Vanille Should Have Been
Usually I'm happy with the way Parfumo requires notes to be explicitly listed on the brand website in order for them to appear here instead of randomly making up notes as Fragrantica does, but I think it backfired for this perfume. On the Les Indémodables site, vanilla mauvais from Comoros, cocoa from Colombia, and Egyptian jasmine are listed as ingredients used at 9.1%, 3.1%, and 0.2% respectively in the perfume concentrate. This is definitely not a complete notes listing as the other 87.6% of the concentrate is not mentioned.

One of the main missing notes here is surely tobacco. I would say Vanille Havane is primarily a tobacco fragrance, hence the reference to the world's most famous source of cigars, Cuba. It is a dry tobacco-leaf accord, when mixed with the sweet boozy vanilla accord, creates a similar effect to Enigma Parfum Cologne. But unlike Enigma and unlike Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum, another fragrance Vanille Havane is often compared to, it doesn't have the sharp fruity cherry note. While neither explicitly mentions it in the notes listing, most people compare Enigma to cherry cola while the Tom Ford fragrance lists a "dried fruit" accord which I interpret as mostly cherry. I personally don't enjoy the fruity vibe in those fragrances, so Vanille Havane is a breath of fresh air. Sweet, dark, boozy, and smoky without any of the cough syrup.

Who knew vanilla could be so virile
A sexy masculine vanilla with wonderful depth. Vanille Havane starts out boozy and a bit syrupy, but then woodiness, leather, dark chocolate, and tobacco emerge. Unbelievable complexity from a house that seems focused on simplicity. It's a masterpiece. Vanille Havane has the deep dark rich cocoa woodiness of my favorite natural ouds from Bortnikoff, although Vanille Havane may have a little more mass appeal than potentially challenging ouds.

Edited to add: Looks like there's a version with natural oud as well! I can't wait to try it.

Heavily boozy, dry tobacco leaf with a healthy dose of warm, rich cocoa + vanilla. Drydown adds a powdery amber accord. Excellent gourmand.

Divisive. My least favorite from the brand. My friends also sampled found it underwhelming. Overhyped the rest of the brand is much better.

Where does the tobacco come from, I only smell tobacco.
And a tiny bit of vanilla.
Finally, dark chocolate powder.
Different than expected.
