sparkling, spicy citrus!
this bursts open with bright, fizzy and slightly soapy aldehydes with bitter orange, as well as an array of spices - to my nose, mainly the freshness of fennel and a dry, powdery cinnamon. it reminds me of something i've smelled before but i can't place it, though definitely a cheerful, festive, light-hearted vibe. as the aldehydes slowly die down (they remain for a while, giving levity to the scent) and the scent loses some of its effervescence, i detect more of the anisic fennel, as well as the balsamic and resinous notes emerging from the base, that also bring with it a well-adjusted sweetness. the orange note actually remains throughout, but it doesn't retain its freshness, instead becoming syrupy and dense in texture, melting into the resins and spices. at this point i get something almost licorice-like. perhaps this is the chinotto? i've no frame of reference unfortunately. i like it a lot!
