Deep and soulful olfactory music

I've finally started to wear the sample set I bought months ago from Pentalogies and I'm smitten. I smelled them on mouillettes and now I'm wearing Étude 1.1 - La Vue as my SOTD. It is just stunning. Clémentine Humeau is the nose behind this enigmatic, deep, soul-stirring scent. It is just a breathtaking work of art, one can hear the symphony behind this parfum.

A heart of Iris, woody and staid lives in this, accented by an almost animalic carrot seed. It opens with the cool twang of elemi, shaded by Cypress branches, dusted with spices of black pepper, cardamom and nutmeg - all with the pop of aldehydes and juniper berries. As we dry down, ethereal cedar becomes prominent, abetted by musky ambrette seed and whiffs of heliotrope.

This is a must buy for me.

Transparent Soft-Animalic….

Airy, fresh-spicy cypress/juniper opening…..interwoven with resinous streaks that, thanks to fine aldehydes, never become too dense….

The flowers blend wonderfully and almost imperceptibly, without being distinctly noticeable individually…..

Noticeable, softly leathery animalic presence throughout…..

Becoming woodier over time…..musk adds transparency……

Towards the base increasingly softer and “lighter”……

Scent impression: bright-leathery/woody/gently animalic…..minimal floral……initially a bit harsh, later soft and caressing…..

For me personally, despite its bright and airy aura, a touch too strict, too woody, and too masculine…..the feminine-soft facets only emerge quite late for my taste…….with a bit more emphasis on the flowers and a bit less on the woody aspects, I would have liked it better….

Herb-spicy-floral-woody-fresh, subtly animalic aura scent with indifferent musk touch

Pentalogies have dedicated the scents of their line (Etudes 1.1-1.5) to the various senses.
La Vue represents the sense of sight, seeing, and comes with surprising "invisibility" - in a monochrome universe without contours. The eye as an organ of the cosmos, perception peaceful and mysterious. In the galaxy of the soul, knowledge flows through.*)

It takes a while to find your way in the light flicker of the fragrance notes... a bit like seeing in the dark - the fovea centralis, the place of sharpest vision on the retina, can increasingly struggle to focus in twilight. I experience the scent similarly, as if permanently in the periphery, enveloping, enticing, but never clearly recognizable.
After a fresh alert, bright resinous-spicy cypress-juniper opening, slightly enhanced by aldehydes, La Vue transforms into a gentle, earthy-woody, simultaneously clean and mischievously animalic aura scent. Soft, bright flickering, not directly graspable yet present. Somehow clear and yet not physical.
Flowers, ambrette, and musk remain light and airy. Here, one is neither powdered nor scrubbed away, although the fragrance notes have the potential to do so, and the costus takes away the innocent purity of the composition.
A really beautiful, very exciting, transparent-mysterious scent. Hard to grasp, I would most likely describe it as a herb-spicy-fresh, slightly woody, subtly animalic aura with an indifferent musk touch. I would prefer to wear it in the warmer season. Definitely unisex.

I highly recommend browsing the brand's website and hope I haven't made any major blunders in my rudimentary description of foveal vision. I left out rods and cones ;-)
