A Spiced Orange Fruitcake Even Proust Would Have Loved
This is a simple and subtle composition of a gentle Neroli, with no sharp bite, nor any soapiness, that is coupled with yummy warm spices and candied citrus fruits. I detect cloves blended with the anisette sweetened with candied orange rinds but not overly sweet, and a subtle bit of dry vanilla in the base. The over all effect for me is a pleasant reminder of the much berated Christmas spiced candied fruit cake and a clove cigarette- cozy & comforting in chilly cold weather. There is something very familiar and déja vu or déja senti les, actually. I find it a bit haunting and curious...a memory covered in a veil of foggy midst.
Due to the fact that this is a solid perfume, it is definitely a fleeting skin scent, which disappears into my skin after about 3 hours. I love to blend this scent with the Amber Absolute from this line, which gives it a little better staying power and a little vavoom. This whole line is meant to be layered and played with to create one's own unique subtle signature skin scent, I think the "Close" and the "Midnight" (the latter with its Jasmine, Tuberose, Citrus) scents from this line would also make alluring combinations with the Spiced Orange. Still, alone this scent is perfect to wear in a no scent/low scent tolerant environment.
In spite of how pleasant I find this scent, I probably won't repurchase when it's gone due to it's low sillage, poor longevity and the fact that my dear 75 year old father said that "it smells like something old ladies wear". So doing the math... that would mean ladies that are in their 90s...that's straight up Edwardian style! Wow, turn of the century dresses with bustles and high necked ruffles...not the vibe that I was going for at all!
