The "All Inclusive" Borneo Oud Oil
Borneo 50K, Ensar Oud. This one is an all-around excellent Malinau oil that offers a full olfactory spectrum that stays true to the region. It might seem like a streamlined oil at first, but in reality, it showcases an abundance of facets that scream "Borneo" which come in and out throughout the wear, making for a rather complex journey. I see this oil as an "All you can sniff" buffet for this particular terroir. Every aspect you'd expect to find in a Bornean oil is displayed: the minty green, the vanilla, the dripping honey, the berries, the florals, and the wood.

The core of the oil is characterized by that unmistakably good-old Malinau woody aroma that you find with many high-quality oils from this region, that is so addictive. Somewhat dry, nutty-vanillic, dusty wood smell. It feels like the main thread of the journey, to which the multitude of other facets add in. I always get a short-lived, faint Diesel blast in the opening, laced with warm spices and honey-like sweetness. Afterward, I get a minty green facet, akin to eucalyptus but very soft, nothing that will clear your sinuses. Following that opening, the nuances reminiscent of the terroir come in and out for the rest of the journey. Creamy white florals, light touches of red berries, faint wafts of green, golden honey, and warm spices. This dance of notes goes on and on, only to settle down to that Malinau woody base that I believe is a trademark that all great oils from this region possess. I thoroughly enjoy this oil, perhaps more than the notorious Borneo 3000. The latter may boast more heft to it, yet I find 50K more diverse in its profile, satisfying, and more refined.

There have been many great oils from Malinau, and I believe that Borneo 50K captures the essence of it most accurately, offering a bit of everything while still being somewhat of an accessible venture into this profile and a great one to have as a reference.
