The absolute fragrance for an adult man
It is not easy for me to decide whether or not to make a review on "Le Male".
I think that this is a fragrance that every perfume lover or collector knows and owns at least 1 bottle in a lifetime. There must be hundreds of stated opinions about this fragrance. What more can I discover and add as a useful opinion?
Le Male is an oriental and sweet fougère having, as predominant scent, one of the following notes or combinations of them: moss, lavender, bergamot, geranium and coumarin. Bergamot, oakmoss and lavender are virtually essential for a good fougère. The fragrance oriental side of "Le Male" demands notes such as amber, vanilla, cinnamon, sandalwood and sometimes oud (not in this case). This is a masculine and intense perfume and there is no other way to understand it.
Although not a novelty any longer, it's a modern fragrance. On top of it, it's sexy, alluring and makes you feel comfortable if you are a mature male over 25. This perfume does not really fit well to male teenagers, and most of them don't feel at ease either wearing or smelling it. It's scent also does not appeal to young girls. It's really a fragrance to be used by adult men and to please adult women (or other adult men).

Its environment is any night event, being it either a club, a fancy dinner, a group gathering, a romantic date or intimacy. Even with the risk of other men using it as well, it does mark a personal position, almost an individual stand point.
As with any night fragrance, just forget about using it in warm days or hot weather due to its sweetness and persistance. You may incur in the risk of becoming annoying with a cloying radius around you.

As strong accords I would like to mention the opening lavender and mint, the heart neroli and cinnamon and the bottom tonka, vanilla and woods. The quite long drydown mainly reveals the bottom notes in an ambery frame. It is notably persistent on skin ensuring a longevity of at least 10 to 12 hours. The sillage is also respectable with a peak at six feet and almost three hours of strong projection.
Of course that such a quality fragrance has many followers (the gentle name for clones). There are some similar fragrances on the market, namely Cuba Gold (nice and cheap), 212 Sexy Men (very nice and with a similar price), Jacomo Rouge (nice and cheap), Prada Luna Rossa Sport (very nice and with a similar price), Perry Elis 360º White for Men (nice and cheap), and many others. Nevertheless "Le Male" sustains its uniqueness in quality, blending and performance, besides its very good looking and still innovative bottle, identifying its wearer on his skin and on his shelf.
I do have an almost unused Cuba Gold cigar bottle - with a cheap price that became expensive as I don't use it - and already tried all the clones I mentioned.
However I do own three bottles of "Le Male" (200ml, 125 ml and 40 ml), besides three of its flankers. If you still have not tried it, just skip the test and buy a flask!

Un Cinzano per cominciare...
The fresh opening with absinth, cumin and pepper notes gives me a vibe of a very nice bittersweet glass of Cinzano on the rocks. Spices, booz and with the freshness of mint... Delicious!
Opening aside, this perfume stands for me as a patchouli, leather, tonka, and woods blending. Those notes are easily identifiable, besides the vermouth boozy top accord.
The ambery leather and cashmere accords are easy to like. They are soft and well behaved, helping my little grey cells to classify this essence as very aromatic and very versatile. The initial minty fresh and artemisia bittersweet vermouth makes way for a refined leathery drydown swetened by vanilla and tonka notes.
I prefer the Intense version over the regular Brit Rhythm. However, it is not groundbreaking. Several opinions claim this perfume to be familiar to many other colognes besides the original Brit Rhythm. That's the issue with a not unique perfume. You may not love it enough to distinguish it from other scents.
The perfume lasts up to 8 hours. Its sillage has about 5 feet radius. I may state that performance is slightly above average.
In summary, its scent is close to a mainstream perfume - vermouth entry - and suitable for a wide range of situations.
The bottle is beautiful and designed with very good taste. It's way different from the Burberry Touch strange bottle that I also own.
It's probably the best Burberry in my opinion.

A Gentleman forever young
I don't understand the purpose of Givenchy to create another perfume with the same name. This 1974 version will allways be the eternal Gentleman for me...
I have always been fond of some established perfume designers outside the "Big 3" (Chanel, YSL and Dior). This affection of mine was at least extended to Guerlain, Versace, Bvlgari and Givenchy. I greatly appreciated Givenchy's decision to launch the series "Les Parfums Mythiques". Yet that did not stop me from having a love-hate relationship with this house.
Givenchy never seemed to have any problem in murdering some of their scent gems, giving the same name to different perfumes, with a total disrespect to their previous creations and their consumers.
As soon as I learned that Givenchy could discontinue the wonderful Givenchy Gentleman - which would be a real crime against humanity - I ran to the Internet with the aim of buying another bottle. The original Givenchy Gentleman, along with Boss Number One and YSL Opium, is part of the "Old School" perfumes that I use almost "obligatorily" once a week.

The opening citrus notes - mainly lemon and bergamot - are well blended with the slightly animallic honey, the bittersweet cinnamon and the soft but dark rose, resulting in a notorious spicy effect. Tarragon is another note that helps this effect, amplifying the effect of the rose, and bolding the spicy aroma of the other notes.
Slowly the patchouli begins to grow, begining powdery and starchy, to become later slightly bitter and smoky, with a faint scent of iris and violet, certainly due to the orris root note. The patchouli trail gets even stronger near the end of the development. This note is the one that mostly identifies Givenchy Gentleman and it's ubiquitous in almost the entire fragrance evolution.
Before starting the drydown, the fragrance becomes a bit "dirty" due to its blending with civet and an earthy vetiver. This blending almost removes all the of the initial honey sweetness but without losing its global softness. The final chord, at the beginning of the drydown, perpetuates the eternal patchouli with a strong but velvety leather, a wandering musk and a lot of gloomy oakmoss.

On the whole, this fragrance presents some polarity because it can be relaxed but also formal, elegant but with some rudeness, and classic without ceasing to be contemporary. So its versatility is quite high just being unsuitable for any events under high temperatures. Its performance is very good, with a considerable longevity and never cloying above average projection.
It's hard not to like this perfume. As I do not want to be surprised by the unforeseeable decisions of Givenchy, I already bought a backup bottle.
I've tried the new 2017 EDT version and I've found it a very boring, undifferentiated fragrance and not related to the original Givenchy. I am however very curious to try the 2018 EDP, which so far has not yet been possible.

The lion that roars classy and expensive for a kitten meow
Let me start with a remark to this perfume gorgeous flask. It is simple, elegant and beautiful. it's a real piece of art.
Inside there is another gem but in the liquid form. The citric pale yellow juice does not let down the flask. As many other scents, it's a woody spicy fragrance. But it's a lot more than just another scent.
It opens with bunch of citrus notes - mandarin, tangerine, pomelo, grapefruit and bergamot - although I feel it like a strong citrus non zesty single note (citrus fruit salad?) that ensures a very fresh opening. One can also distinguish a strong and more permanent lavender and a hint of rosemary.
The heart notes play a major role with this fragrance evolution by imposing a strong Iris scent together with cedar in the background.
The base does account for the drydown structure with a good quality semi sweet strong vanilla note, supported by sandal, amber, patchouli, and moss.
Looking at the bigger picture, what you get it's a 1-2-3 scent with the main accords of lavender, iris and vanilla. It's neither a mighty fougére dominant lavender, nor an iris from Dior or Prada, nor even one of Yves Rocher powerfull vanillas, but it's an excelent global scent looking at the overall composition with a smoth blending. It's a true masterpiece.
It's impossible not to make comparisons with two look alike fragrances (and I am not discussing who is copying who): Creed's Bois du Portugal and Roja's Danger pour Homme. I suggest to all readers of this review to try to make that comparison.
Globally this EDP is very elegant and loveable. It's super versatile besides having a well above average performance, as you can also confirm in the charts. The elegant flask is the candy cherry on top of this fragrance cake. I must as well refer that two months ago I bought the 125 ml EDP flask (non tester) for 23 Euros on line.

The scent for an happy soul
To me, fragrances could almost have a soul, for they induce a variety of feelings and states of mind.
Armani Code Profumo makes me confident and happy. Its sweetness is present for a whole day and that appeases me. It begins by smelling like a fruity sweetness that slowly transforms itself into a powdery-sweet effect, framed by an intensive balsamic setting, strongly spiced and almost animalic.
It can even become intoxicating due to its strong presence and character, inducing you to be absent minded just thinking about the pleasure you get from this magnific scent.
This sweetness is savored calmly and shared with those around us. I even think that they look at me with an edge of an envy feeling due to my face of pleasure. Given the amber aroma that surrounds this soul in the form of a perfume, that pleasure becomes almost liturgical. The Code Profumo "gourmandise" it's balmy, warm and sweet, strong and smooth at the same time.
I really like it and it's a safe alluring way to feel happy for an entire day or night. I can sense this scent for more than 12 hours whenever I apply just 3 or 4 sprays.
