My grandpa's aftershave
My grandpa was the hero of my childhood. I only associate fond and precious memories with him. He had an aftershave that smelled super fresh and extremely woody. I don't know exactly what he used, but I loved watching him shave and apply the aftershave. It was a smell that I had already buried deep down in my subconscious.
But it came out again when I bought a sample of "Althaïr | Parfums de Marly".
If you want to test "Althaïr | Parfums de Marly", you expect a gourmand. In my opinion, you don't get that at all. At least not immediately.
Immediately after spraying, a citrusy freshness emerges, almost minty, with a lot of masculine woodiness. That is it! My grandpa's aftershave, like from my childhood! Unmistakably heroic and masculine. I see myself as a little boy, how he lifts me into the air with one arm.
But isn't it supposed to be a gourmand?
After about 4 hours, a slight praline note is added, but my grandpa is still omnipresent.
After around 6 hours, praline gains the upper hand and vanilla joins in. But only slightly.
After about 8 hours, you are left with a very skin-deep, ordinary vanilla scent.
Is the fragrance overhyped? Guaranteed. But the memories were worth their weight in gold.
