You cannot hide from the smoky opening in this fragrance. Along the line you get this sweet smell that is not overwhelming but tone down with the smell of tobacco and smoke.
The interesting part of it is that it lasts long enough to appreciate. I sprayed this perfume around 7am and my brother could still perceive the smell on me when I got to his house around 8pm.
Sweet smoky vanilla

From the opening to the dry down, this smell is inoffensive and safe. The opening is citrusy which gives a vibe of Creed Aventus or Armaf CDNIM (but doesn't smell like any of the two either), after which a safe dry woody smell comes in 10/20 mins later. It is safe to wear anytime with a good longevity, but not a beastly projection.
The dry down of this fragrance is gourmandy - kinda vanilla and a creamy notes.
What to expect is a gourmand mix with a safe woody smell as the citrusy opening hardly last 5 to 10mins.

I have never tried JPG Ultramale so i can't say how close Afnan 9PM is to it, but i can tell you Afnan 9M has a strong sillage and good longevity (10hrs on my skin, and 24hrs+ on my cloth).
The vanilla is noticeable in the dry down with a powdery touch.
