A Nose Story

The sense of smell, together with touch, is the easiest sense to stimulate. A perfume remains above all chemistry and it is chosen by everyone according to their preferences and their sense of smell. Unconsciously but also according to your olfactory preferences, you are stimulated by an emotion or a feeling through your sense of smell.

The choice of a perfume or a brand remains indeed something intimate and personal and your choice often relates to a perfume that mysteriously attracts you. If you've often wondered why, it's because the odor triggers specific physiological reactions in you, linked to the sensitivity of your sense of smell to certain molecules, as well as to the conscious or unconscious memory of your experience. So a subtly iodized scent can remind you of the smell of the sea, the beach vacation ... while a cinnamon scent is likely to make you plunge back into the kitchen of your childhood with its smells of cakes and apple pies.

I find it interesting that although I spent much of my youth at the beach & love the sea, I am not a fan of aquatic & beach fragrances. I would think that I would love them because they bring back happy memories.

Well, I understood it in the sense that scent apparently has a split-second access to the brain in a direct manner without filters to process it like visual or auditory stimuli even on a more complex level like you mentioned (music, graphics). Even though I wouldn't deny that the strength of impact by music, for instance, could be stronger than that of smell.

How is sense of smell easier to stimulate than vision (graphics, video) or hearing (music and all artificial sounds)? Actually sense of smell is much harder to stimulate - you need excesive knowledge of aromachemicals. And technology-wise, this is the only sense that we are unable to stimulate via technological advancements (or, it is very complex)
