The Number of Sprays Dilemma

Some perfumes are quite tricky when is comes to knowing how much to put on. Some start off strong and disappear with a whimper; some start off as weak as water only to ramp up in strength seemingly in direct relation to the impossibility of finding somewhere to wash them off.

How much perfume
Should I wear today?
One spray, two spray?
It's really hard to say.

I can barely smell it
But am not expecting cheek
So stow your bare audacity
And don't say that I reek.

I think it will smell better
If I spray some on my chest
So the unfolding of the perfume
Can be captured in my vest

One spray, two spray
Oh I'll give a couple more
Just to be on the safe side
As I head out from the door.

Some grow ever stronger
As the day wears on
Others never surface
However much I don.

Whatever choice I make
One spray or five or eight
I realise it's the wrong one
As I am running late.

Nice poem! My daughter and I were testing perfumes at a counter one day. We thought they'd worn off because by that evening we couldn't smell them at all. We went for a walk at dusk after dinner and ran into a neighbor who good-naturedly told us she could smell our perfume from two blocks away even before she recognized who we were! Oops.

Sensible advice PBullFriend. Another lesson I have learnt is not to wear perfume if I am going into a situation that makes me really nervous (I am looking at you Caleche Soie de Parfum, managing to over power the smell of disinfectants at the dentist).

Very cute! I've grown quite cautious, considering the number of times I've accidentally blasted myself. No more than one spray for me unless I'm at home for the day, or it's a scent I've worn before! :o
