A Magical Visit to Maison Jardin d'Écrivains in Paris
This past weekend, while visiting my partner and family in Paris, I finally made it to a place that had been sitting on my "must-visit" list for what feels like forever: Maison Jardin d'Écrivains, located at 15 rue des Tournelles, just a stone’s throw from Bastille.
Let me tell you, this boutique is pure magic.

From the moment I stepped inside, I was completely transported. The space is beautifully and thoughtfully decorated, with every piece of furniture and every object seemingly thrifted or hand-picked with incredible care over the years. It's not just a perfume store, it’s an immersive, almost mystical experience where every corner breathes creativity and charm.
Even more special was the time I spent there, nearly two to three hours! With the clerk, who turned out to be none other than the husband of the perfumer herself, Anaïs Biguine. His passion for Anaïs’s work is contagious. He spoke about each perfume with so much love, knowledge, and pride, creating an atmosphere that felt both intimate and inspiring. It wasn’t just shopping, it was like stepping into the heart and soul of Jardin d'Écrivains.
The real treat? You can explore the entire collection of fragrances, candles, house perfume created by Anaïs Biguine, each one more captivating than the last. From their inspirations rooted in literature and the arts to their unique olfactive signatures, every scent tells a story.
I went there knowing a few of their references, Oud Pagode, Baptisma and Erborista from the Chapel factory collection, and Baltaszar Del Alcazar, Howl, Morris, Peau d'âne, Wilde from the Jardin d'écrivains collection, you could say that i did not step blindly in the store !
However, even if i kinda knew with which fragrance i wanted to bring home, and i got swept by all the discoveries and the recommendation made by Mister the husband and i ended up with 10 other new love and left with Holy Stick and the eyes filled with stars and the nose from various fragrances.
I truly cannot recommend visiting Maison Jardin d'Écrivains enough. If you find yourself in Paris and you love perfume (or just appreciate beauty and artistry), do yourself a favor and step inside. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. (and plan some time ahead !)
I have only passed through Paris on my way to Germany, but not stayed to visit.
If I hopefully make it back out that way, I would love to visit this store!
Last time I was there short before 6 pm after a workday in Paris. I literally ran from the Gare de Lyon, to be in time to get a present for my sweetheart (Eau de Blixen, which she tested on a previous visit). When I came all sweaty and out of breath, he told me he closes at 7 pm. So I stayed... one hour.
Now I have offered a bottle to my sister (Tara Mantra edc), a bottle to my love ( L'Eau de Blixen), have a huge collection of samples and still didn't buy anything for me. L'eau de Tagore, Tara Mantra edp (if I can find one) or Holy Sticks ?
I will read and enjoy your comments on their work!
And the owner do speak english but be prepared to his accent, which is very very french like, haha, thumbs-up to him as he's from a generation when learning english was not a thing at all !
