Isabelle Larignon's Triptyque

Isabelle Larignon's Triptyque

Today I wanted to highlight the perfumer that initiated my love for perfumery, Isabelle Larignon ! This is a small but intriguing collection consisting of just three fragrances, each deeply conceptualized and brought to life with incredible attention to detail. Isabelle Larignon doesn’t stop at crafting the scents themselves; she also weaves a rich narrative around each fragrance with tales and poems that enhance the artistic allure of the collection.

I appreciate the thoughtfulness—or perhaps the "commercial storytelling"—behind these creations. Either way, it works on me! I’m a sucker for fairytales, what can I say?

The pricing is standard for niche perfumery, with 50ml bottles priced at €120 and 10ml travel sizes at €42.

In France, you can get samples at Le nez insurgé (online or Bordeaux)

So here are my thoughts on each scent:

Le Flocon de Johann K – Like a Snowflake on the Tip of Your Nose

Wow. That was my first reaction as this type of scent profile was unknown to me …

This one is surprising and unlike anything else in my collection. That said, I’m not sure I can actually wear it. It reminds me of a fancy bubble bath or even a high-end cleaning product.
What sets it apart, however, is the tingly sensation it creates—it truly mimics the sharp, bracing bite of cold air on a winter morning. The composition is fascinating from an artistic perspective, but I’m struggling to pinpoint the right season or occasion for it.
The fragrance evokes an over-clean, wintry vibe, like the ephemeral touch of a snowflake on your nose. And just like a snowflake, the sensation disappears quickly. It’s a fleeting experience that leaves you intrigued but not necessarily attached.

Milky Dragon, A Tender Tale of Tea and Citrus

On paper, the tea note is prominent, but on my skin, it transforms into a soft citrusy floral with an almost gummy-like texture—think Japanese fruit candies. The opening feels warm and comforting, balanced by a subtle acidic tang.
After testing it multiple times, especially side-by-side with my other tea-based perfumes, I was able to pinpoint its unique qualities. Milky Dragon is much softer, with a rounded, creamy feel. I also catch hints of apricot, likely from the osmanthus, which adds a velvety sweetness.
This is a perfect fragrance for springtime—fresh, delicate, and utterly pleasant. Its longevity is average for a niche scent, lasting 5-6 hours on skin, perhaps longer on clothes, though it loses some of its initial roundness over time.
For me, this fragrance carries a deeply personal connection. Having lived in Taipei for a year, I drank my fair share of 奶茶 (nǎichá—milk tea). Milky Dragon immediately transports me to the experience of jasmine milk tea (茉香奶茶). I understand that the tea note might not resonate with everyone, as it leans toward an Eastern interpretation, but for me, it’s perfectly balanced and effortlessly wearable. Needless to say, I bought the 50ml.

Bangla Yasaman, Jasmine in the Raw: Love It or Leave It

First impressions? A spicy jasmine explosion, with the jasmine note unmistakably at the core. However, it quickly shifts into a strong indolic territory, and unfortunately, this phase gives off a urinal-like vibe that’s hard to overlook.
Indole is always a risky territory with jasmine fragrances, and while it’s only really noticeable in the first five minutes on my skin, it’s enough to make me hesitant. Sadly, this one just isn’t my cup of tea.

Final Thoughts

Isabelle Larignon’s Triptyque offers an undeniably artistic and thought-provoking olfactory experience. Each fragrance has a distinct personality, and while not all of them are wearable for me, I appreciate the creativity and narrative behind the collection. If you’re someone who values storytelling in your perfumes, this line is worth exploring.

Thanks you for reading, I hope that I might have triggered your interest for the tiny house that has sparked my perfume journey !

How did you initially discover this perfumer to begin with?
Le Flocon de Johann K seems intriguing, as I enjoy "bubble bath"/soapy profiles. And the Milky Dragon sounds delicious. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts! 😊
P.S. I'm a sucker for fairytales too 😂
