Oscar has left the building...

Rest in Perfume and Peace uncle Oscar. Thank you so very much for creating some of our youth's benchmarks!

He seemed to be smart enough to take both Republicans' and Democratics' money, without displeasing any of them. To tell the truth, he looked a lot like an old-school diplomat himself and perhaps he was one of sorts, since he was regarded as an unofficial ambassador of the Dominican Republic, his home country, and held a diplomatic passport as well. To all of us who could not afford one of his stunning gowns, his cheap, but by no means valueless, scents were our ticket to grandeur during our youth. Your earrings could be control knobs on the panel of some time machine, programmed to go back to the roaring '70s-'80s and they absolutely rock! Thank you very much for dropping by ScentFan!

Nipped over to overstock and bought the Oscar EdP and EdT for old times sake. An Oscar de la Renta gown has graced most, maybe all, red carpets since the 60's. He designed inaugural ball gowns for both Republican and Democratic First Ladies. Recently I've been buying his earrings. Just posted a pic on my page. He was always great at big, gorgeous ones and they're back in style.

You are most welcome Sleuth! I wholeheartedly agree Sherapop. Oscar was the underdog in a time when First, Magie Noire and Opium were huge, and like a bunch of bullies, they threatened to stamp on anything that would defy their omnipotence.
However, the fact that it's still around today, nearly 40 years after, although kinda bound and muffled, shows that it has built a solid base of die-hard followers over the years. And this is always the first step to immortality...

Oscar was my first real perfume, and the only scent I wore for a few years. A true signature scent!

Thanks for that! :)

"...for creating some of our youth's benchmarks!", what else? Oh no, wait! And due to my inability of being unbiased when it comes to the thundering fragrances that roamed the earth during my coming of age. Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui was one of the most iconic masculine powerhouses of the '80s, an era when there was not a new scent released every three months mind you, and one of the cynosures that introduced me and many others to the world of perfumes. Even if he had created just this fragrance, it would still be enough for me to consider him as a very important element of male perfume history. Oscar, Ruffles and Volupte can also speak loud and clear for the feminine part of the house, being spectacular specimens of excellent perfumery too. So, that was the deal between me and uncle Oscar, and I hope you enjoyed the little journey back in time as much as I did...

I hope he rests in peace.
However I know nearly nothing about Oscar de la Renta. Would you like to share with us why you're so fond of this designer and his brand? I would be interested to hear about that, especially when it comes to perfume.
