"1909," "1984" and "2019" by Ormonde Jayne: A Tribute to Selfridges' Milestones

Ormonde Jayne presents three new limited edition fragrances that capture significant milestones of the British department store in olfactory compositions.

1909 – A House is Born

The perfume pays homage to the legendary and iconic store and is focused on a smooth, tenacious sandalwood, in-keeping with the grand carved wooden cabinets filled to the brim with luxurious artefacts. Highlighted with a radiant grapefruit top note to emphasize the sparkling crystal chandeliers and positivity of the store.

"1909" opens with a sparkling top note of bergamot, grapefruit and mandarin, followed by a warm accord of cardamom, labdanum and sandalore in the heart. Finally, an interplay of suede and sandalwood provides depth. The name of the fragrance refers to the founding of Selfridges in 1909.

1984 – Emblem of the House

"1984" begins with a spicy, fruity blend of nutmeg, black currant and pink pepper, and then moves into a warm, floral heart of jasmine, rose absolute, amber and incense. In the base, sweet and resinous benzoin unite with sensual musk and creamy vanilla absolute.



The fragrance is a tribute to the yellow rose, which was originally bred for the 75th anniversary of the house. This rose variety was first planted in Hyde Park in 1984 and is known as "The Emblem of the House of Selfridge." 

2019 – The Theatre of Retail

The first store to light up its windows at night, drawing in the crowds like true theatre. 2019, the perfume opens with a burst of bright citrus and floral notes, evoking the buzz of excitement that permeated the air when Selfridges first opened its doors.

"2019" exudes first a floral-fruity top note of bergamot, mandarin and freesia, replaced by a floral heart of jasmine absolute. A warm, sweet accord of musk, sandalwood and vanilla absolute completes the composition. The fragrance pays tribute to the 110th anniversary of Selfridges and recalls the moment when the department stores opened for the first time.

The fragrance essences are enclosed in noble flacons in dark pink, on which the respective year is emblazoned in gold lettering.

The fragrances are available in bottle sizes of 120 ml in the UK.
