Pink Sugar Heart Attack
As warm as a sunset. It hums on the edges of the skin, tingles ever so slightly. Aether that whips about in a summer storm then subsides, growing patiently. There is amber and there is bronze, then gold. It has a pervading sweetness to it, similar to melted raw sugar in mid-caramelization. An embedded saltiness gives it an atmospheric edge to fuel its embers.

Overall, still under consideration whether I enjoy this fragrance or not. I do not recognize this scent to read much as “ethereal”, as it lacks an air of mystery and a bit juvenile in its purity. It’s a nicely blended single note, but it’s still a slow-burn with not much development or intrigue. However, I suppose it could be considered otherworldly; this is exactly the scent I imagine a finishing attack of the Mahou Shoujo genre would be. The residual magic once the flashy beams of hearts and sparkly flourishes are cut away. It pierces the veil.

Veggie Tales
New growth shook off midnight frost under the afternoon sun and, at long last, a friendly neighbor reacquaints themself with their outdoor garden, rolling up their sleeves and sinking ungloved hands into cold, moist earth. They test for nitrogen, acid, phosphorus, calcium. Weeding is only half the struggle, but maintenance of composition was something to keep an eye out for on this foliage of vegetation. Soon it will bloom and ripen, and one day it will be left on someone’s doorstep as a gift.

Received this little fella as a freebie with a purchase, and looked forward to try something out of my comfort zone. By the perfume’s description, I hoped it would resemble the undergrowth, deep roots, weeds and all kinds of wildflowers that grow thicker under every breath, every pulse. Woods that are keen and old, with no other sounds other than the sound of the world, of crickets in the distant, of cold water eroding rocky streams. Something akin to Snufkin of Moominvalley or Lolly Willowes in terms of coexistence with nature.

Instead, The Greening Wood evokes more of a green thumb; flora touched by someone, by something man-made. Agriculture, cultivation, ownership and tending of the land. With my skin ph, it’s knock-out vegetal. The celery goes hard, overshadowing much of the crisp clover. It made me appreciate the mineral note more as it provided some relief in giving the springtime freshness of dew.

Unfortunately, the dry down was my olfactory hell and I finally had to scrub it off. The greens fade to florals, and it became too indolic and musty for my nose to handle. So, can’t speak much on the longevity front due to that.

This was a miss, but I do enjoy how Alkemia’s fragrances feel atmospheric and truly paint a story with their scents.

If you like piña coladas, and gettin' caught in the rain~
Summer as an incantation, a tropical spell woven through palm trees and ripened fruit ready for plucking. A headiness interwoven with the magic of daylight, warm sand, and ocean breeze.

At first opening, Paradise evokes a frothy cocktail to be enjoyed under a shady cabana. Wide-brim hats and flowing white sun dresses type beat. There is a whisper of a fruity accord, almost juicy, mixed in with white petals soaked in coconut milk.

During the dry down, it becomes increasingly lactonic. The coconut note fades and creamy tropical vanilla seeps into the skin. It’s delicate in its simplicity, and not overpowering. Almost reminds me of the pastry filling of a pâte à choux.

It is a bit too vanilla-forward for my tastes, however, Paradise is supposedly meant to be worn in higher temperatures, so I’ll await to experience it in the summer fully before passing judgement.
