Eau La La!
Sometimes a fragrance can teleport me to a particular place. I love being sent around just by my imagination. Eau de Givenchy from 1980 has a lot to offer on that account. With just five registered notes it does not promise a lot. Do not be fooled. This is a beautiful Eau. An Eau that sends me straight to Paris, 28 Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Just outside Givenchy’s main boutique. The clean, white walls with the big window and the discreet writing. Pure subtle luxury. What could be more French?
The scent itself starts out really citric with a minty background, but very quickly it moves to Honeysuckle, Jasmine and finally a really warm Sandalwood note accompanied by a lovely, clean Musk and a hint of Cedar. The fragrance, to me, is really green. It is definitely a must-have for everyone, who loves spring, Paris and a lighthearted, sophisticated fragrance.

Not at my wedding
I have an adorable miniature of this magnificent juice from House Givenchy. It is less complex than the original Amarige, which has twenty five registered notes. It makes Amarige Mariage, with only eight notes, quite easy to dissolve and I get a full picture of the scent at first test.
AM has a fruity-fresh opening. The citric and bitter fruits make it rather interesting. I do get a gorgeous Magnolia together with Cinnamon, which is a good combination of sweetness and flower. To my nose, the Jasmine stays in the background. The base of Patchouli and Sandalwood ends the journey in a mellow way.
To me, this is not one of the best Givenchys. I would not pick it for my wedding day. Mark Buxton had more to offer, when he created Laguna, the gorgeous Dali flanker. But AM comes in a lovely bottle as does Laguna.

Pick a date
This is a fragrance that does not know what it is. Ginger and grapefruit come at you - bitter, sour and sharp. Very soon the scent becomes Vanilla - and just Vanilla. That is not a perfume unless you name it ‘Vanilla’ like Alyssa Ashley. Then it is honest. In this case it is just nonsense. Why is this Sweet Sixteen? Finally it becomes a bit Amber - warm and nutty in a good way. But too little and too late. I would go back to my own Sweet Sixteens and recommend one of the many Date deodorants. Maybe ‘Jessica’. Or ‘Pamela’ - my favourite. They were just as good and lasted longer.

…And right there I fell in love!
Earlier I have written about Naughty Alice, which I have had for many years. I was surprised that a fragrance made by Vivienne Westwood could be so mainstream. Naughty Alice is delicate and pleasing - but that is not my image of VW. Summing up on my review I wrote that I was looking forward to meeting Boudoir EdP, because of the many positive reviews promising a great perfume with a lot of ‘Wow’. And finally I got the chance. I succeeded in buying a 30ml from the years 2004-2007. And when testing I fell in love.
This is a fragrance that belongs on the top shelf with other 10s. It starts out Orange blossom-Hyacinth and it does that really well. Then Cardamom and Rose join the party together with Jasmine and Cinnamon and the journey just continues for a long. Vanilla, of course, and Patchouli.
What makes this so great? The intensity. Just amazing.
The bottle is rather fun. The strange ‘helmet’ on a chubby glass bottle and the delicate label…
Boudoir - it was great finally meeting you!

Popy will have to do…
With so little notes it amazes me how this fragrance can give me so many inputs. Wauw! What an amazing fragrance. What a success. What a shame it has been discontinued.
It has a fruity vibe to start with. Not like peach or pear, a bit sweeter and fragile. It disappears quite quickly and a floral note comes forward. Strange because it is the amber that tricks me, warm and smooth and totally irresistible. I get a woody vibe as well, feeding the idea that this is not a simple fragrance.
I keep getting a bit of the same ‘picture’ as with Popy Moreni EdP, which has Coffee, Heliotrope, Ylang Ylang and Vetiver. All are, to my nose, detectable in Gaultier2. It is just so beautiful. Kurkdjian has done it again.
Earlier I would have promised myself to hunt down this fragrance to have it in my collection, since it is so good. But I have Popy - that will have to do.
