Lemon in winter?!
Brief history
I still remember well when I bought my first perfume with my father.
He is a niche lover himself and dragged me along to a small basement perfumery in Berlin Mitte (I'm sure some of you know it)
With an open mind, I answered the question of what scent I was looking for
"citrusy...and um fresh"
And that's when I smelled it for the first time: Still life!
A fragrance that I liked so much that it became my Christmas present...(thanks dad).
But now to the actual review:
After 2 years of proper perfume experience and testing several fragrances, I realize how almost impossible it is for many houses to create a citrus fragrance that fits into every season and fulfills its task: Citrus.
Houses like Aqua di Parma with
Bergamotto di Calabria
or
Chanel with
Allure Homme Sport Eau Extrême lead the way.
However, many of you are going blind because of this citrus basic idea out there.
THERE IS SO MUCH MORE!!!
Still Life is like the ray of warming sunlight on a Sunday noon in the cold winter.
It smells like the feeling of biting into a lemon cake with icing at a children's birthday party when you were 5 years old.
The scent makes the body loll like a cat after its afternoon nap.
This scent is the lemon you imagine when you scroll around Parfumo looking for a new blind buy.
No iron, no stinging, no menthol, no suffocating sweetness and, most importantly, no unnecessary spices.
I can only recommend everyone to spray this fragrance on in winter. Dr gives a completely different direction.
It's a really nice change from all the heavy fragrances.
It's like when you slowly realize on December 15th that all the speculoos and the constant lying are starting to put you in a bad mood, so you put on warm clothes and go for a walk in the cold.
Just like a vitamin D tablet, the Still Life awakens the endorphins in you.

Gentlemanly freshness in a bottle
The Sedley first caught my eye on the PdM shelf in KaDeWe. Where it caught my eye but somehow didn't convince me to buy it...
So now comes the story of my find:
As one does, I sniffed my way through the range.
My favorite: the Percival.
I paid less attention to the Sedley, but kept it in the back of my mind.
1 month later:
I'm thinking about ordering the Percival, but I'm put off by the bad buys on blind orders
"It's not really a blind buy"
i think to myself, but go to the department store a second time to be on the safe side, and spray the fragrance on again.
This time, however, it doesn't pick me up the way I remembered.
So I smell the other PdM again and come across Sedley.
Its opening just wouldn't let me go, so I had to take a breath to enjoy this perfectly balanced blend of bergamot and mint again.
It was clear to me that I would buy the Sedley!
The next steps were then:
-Parfumo Souk
-Sedley rest bottle
-Ordered 66ml for 120€
so I wait 4 days and watch YouTube videos about the Sedley.
Many criticize the durability and the boring fragrance progression by PdM standards.
"Doesn't bother me, I want an everyday fragrance for school anyway" I tell myself, hoping that I haven't decided too quickly again. (120€ is not a little for a 10th grader)
On the day of delivery, I was really impatient, like a little child waiting for presents at Christmas
20 stops, the DHL shipment tracking shows me.
I take another look at the ingredients.
"Well, I hope I still like it"
(My taste changes hourly)
10 stops, I'm already getting ready to accept the package.
But then it took another 30 minutes.
The scent is there!
I energetically open the package.
I pull the lid off the bottle and realize how heavy and high-quality this
Metal head is.
But that's what you want when you pay €120.
Now to the fragrance:
The first note is a tangy sprite, with
a ripe mint leaf, and this fougere typically masculine character.
After 5 minutes, the Sprite smell disappears and a bitter lemon peel smell emerges, heavenly!
30 minutes later:
After looking at the fragrance pyramid, I now also smell the musk.
But this is anything but animalic, it has more of a scented candle effect on me: deep, relaxing and sexy.
My highlight:
The mint, as the main ingredient of the sedley, blends with the whole compilation and rounds it off very smoothly.
Here you realize once again that it is not just a cheap drugstore perfume but really well thought out.
You don't smell it as a single accord. It's more like a spice sprinkled over the fragrance. Together with the lavender, it gives the fragrance this typical noble, almost
gentlemen-like PdM DNA.
Nevertheless, the fragrance remains a sparkling young scent that is playfully serious at the same time.
After 3-4 hours, it slowly develops into a masculine musk fragrance with soft floral accords.
After about 6-7 hours, it can then only be perceived as a skin scent.
Conclusion:
The fragrance has one of the most beautiful openings I know, and is a solid choice especially for the warmer temperatures.
However, if you are looking for an exciting fragrance progression and a unique drydown, you are in the wrong place.
Between designers, you will stand out as a much more complex and sophisticated fresh scent, but next to a heavier sneeze scent you will only be a nice smelling little brother.
But I think that is also the intention of Sedley, it is for people who pay attention to their appearance but don't want to stand out.
So it's perfect for school or work.
(A little tip: to get out of bed in the morning too, by the way)
So you can be sure that the fragrance will go down well with everyone and won't give you a headache even with 6 sprays.
(this is not to distort the power of this fragrance, you can also smell it with 2 sprays)
In the category of light fragrances for school, work or as a summer scent, Sedley is simply unbeatable.
But for a date or a special occasion, it doesn't have enough oomph.
Thanks for reading ;)
