Miracle tree
If you have been dealing with perfumes for a while, sooner or later you will come across the term niche and thus the BDK Parfums brand. But caution is advised. Even though these fragrances are now praised to the skies in countless reviews and videos, they are anything but ordinary.

The best-known fragrance from this brand is probably Gris Charnel, which is loved by everyone. Except for me. I almost bought a bottle of it, but decided at the last minute to sample the fragrance. I can't thank myself enough, because when I finally put my nose to Gris Charnel I smelled...wet potting soil (yuck).

So I also tried Vanille Leather with a fragrance sample. After the bitter disappointment with Gris Charnel, I was a little scared. I sniffed the test area on my arm very carefully. I closed my eyes and...sit in a brand new, black BMW with leather interior. It's a beautiful, warm summer's day and the sun is shining so brightly that gloomy thoughts don't stand a chance. A miracle tree that smells intensely of vanilla flutters on the rear-view mirror. The windows are rolled down and the gentle breeze mixes with the smell of the car and the fragrant tree. I live in the moment and say to myself: life is beautiful.

Holy Grail
My interest in perfume slumbered long and deep within me like Smaug in Erebor. One day, as I was lost in thought on my way home, a woman walked past me, closely followed by a large and heavy cloud of vanilla scent. But neither the woman nor the scent itself awakened the dragon, it was rather the thought - no: the longing to be a cloud. Something free, fleeting, invisible and unapproachable...

At the beginning of my journey, I played it safe and bought a few of the most popular designer fragrances on the market, the so-called People Pleasers. Gradually, I got to know the fragrances and became more and more confident about which direction I wanted to go in and which not. At the same time, I tried to remain open to "detours". When I had collected a few bottles that I liked but didn't exactly take my shoes off, I began to wonder if that was all there was to it. I started to hang around in niches, fatally, chasing the dream of the (for me) perfect fragrance. After more than half a year, I was tired of chasing and resignedly began to watch others go shopping.

And then I saw this one perfume haul on YouTube. When a certain YouTuber (if you know, you know) held the red bottle up to the camera, I first thought that I already had two L'Interdits and lost interest. But then he said something that stuck with me: "This smells like Monica Bellucci". Bam. Inception accepted!

There was just one problem. The YouTuber had bought the L'Interdit Rouge, but there was still the Ultime - was it perhaps even "better"? So I watched more videos trying to compare the two versions. It didn't help until I found a short video saying that the Ultime was a bit "rounder" and more suitable for the masses, which brought me back to the beginning of my journey. So I decided to go for the potential People Pleaser.

A few weeks later, I held the L'Interdit Rouge Ultime in my hand and was annoyed. What had I been thinking? Anyway, I decided that if it smelled just a little like the original, it could stay. However, I was more or less setting myself up for disappointment.

I sprayed the fragrance into the crook of my arm, waited a few seconds and held my arm in front of my face. And what can I say...oh my God - OMG! I heard the angels singing.
That typical L'Interdit tuberose together with the cocoa note and - uff, just awesome. I could have cried. The search for the perfect fragrance is over.

Unfortunately not my cup of tea
I first became aware of Dita von Teese as a "friend of...". Later as "the one in the giant martini glass". I came across her in the perfume world when I was looking for a fragrance that smelled like lipstick. This was exactly when her new perfumes came onto the market. Coincidence or fate? As there were no reliable reviews yet, I went to the nearest Rossmann to test the fragrances. Unfortunately, the stores hadn't heard about the release. An employee told me that the last time she had heard of a fragrance by this artist was 10 years ago. However, some of the fragrances were already sold out on the website.

I thought to myself that you can't usually go wrong with a rose fragrance. Why else would you give your loved ones a rose with as many petals as possible? For many, the rose is also the most beautiful flower. So I ordered blindly.

I looked at the slender and beautiful reddish bottle in my hand. The black tassel felt wonderfully silky. Then I couldn't stand it any longer and carefully sprayed the fragrance on myself.

But instead of landing in a bed of rose petals, I felt like I was holding my nose deep in a barrel of rainwater. In the height of summer. At least there were still a few fresh rose petals floating on the surface of the smelly broth. A real shame but this fragrance is simply not for me.
