The Comfort of an Old Wine Cellar
Dear fragrance community and friends of Caravelle Epicée,

Do not be misled by my title, higgs, ... no, I am not drunk!

When I smell this fragrance, I am transported underground to a wine/cognac cellar somewhere in France. I think, for example, of a vineyard in the Bordeaux region, where the wines can age for a very long time. I see ancient oak barrels in front of me, it is cramped down there, there is little light, the air is humid. Somewhere there must be a puddle of spilled wine, because the scent of old wine combined with the smell of the old walls fills the air and makes it sultry and intoxicating. It is a mysterious enveloping atmosphere. Almost like in the womb of the earth.

This is Caravelle Epicée for me.

CE provides comfort and warmth. It is the answer to the longing for unity with creation. It stops time and allows us to taste a moment of eternity.

CE is an autumn fragrance, like for the harvest festival, that honors the fruits. It has the power to highlight the beauty of ripeness. In doing so, it pays homage to the journey of development that has taken place.

The impending winter is not denied by CE. Therefore, to us as wearers of CE:

We, who waste so much energy of our lives struggling and fighting with our conditio humana, are calmed and soothed here. The golden light, the colorful leaves, the fruits of autumn are positive signposts. So is CE a remedy for the midlife crisis?

CE, a promise that everything will be alright, everything has its meaning even if it is not yet recognizable to you. You re-enter the cycle, you are welcomed back, human, you become one with everything.

This means CE is not a superficial perfume, it is profound and insightful. The fact that its scent development is steady and does not offer olfactory fireworks only emphasizes its groundedness.

It goes without saying that such a fragrance has nothing synthetic.

The bottle is beautiful! It is already a tactile experience to touch the wooden cap made of dark ebony. But that is not even necessary. The wood is so finely polished that I feel the sensation of touching it as soon as my eye falls on the bottle.

So a clear 100% from me!

Self-esteem
Perfumes are used for many things. They can be significant companions!

I often associate scents with memories. For example, I have one to remember my deceased father and one to remember my first love and tumultuous youth.

However, some perfumes simply serve a function. I have a bottle for the winter blues, a bottle to feel sexy and daring, and one to feel innocent and girlish.

Perhaps that's why some members of the perfume community have large collections. I only aspire to have a small pouch with my most important perfumes, the ones I would take outside during a fire alarm.

Even now, however, my collection houses an unusual and little-known treasure.

To help you understand its significance to me, I need to elaborate a bit. It’s going to get very English now:

Night. A dark Cave. In the middle, a Caldron boiling. Thunder.

"Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,-
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

...

Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good."

I feel like one of the three witches in Macbeth when I wear Terre de sarment. Angular, edgy, serpentine, toxic, far from wanting to fall, confident, centered, and filled with the readiness to stand up for my interests. In short, you can trust me with anything when I wear this scent. I can take a low blow more easily. Applause and success can be truly enjoyed. In brief: I feel invincible or like a winner regardless of external circumstances.

That’s why TdS is a confidence-boosting scent for me. The right fragrance for a conversation about a raise with the boss, for a presentation in front of 200 people, or the first meeting with the future mother-in-law.

Do you now understand the significance of TdS for my fragrance emergency pouch? It is my confidence scent.

I can only recommend that every woman consider TdS in light of this quality. :-)

I recommend Potion by Dsquared to men. It is, for me, the masculine perfume counterpart to TdS regarding its effect on self-confidence.

But dear men, do give some feedback! :-)

Scandal: Black Magic Lacks Enchantment
My mother received the old Magie Noire as a gift from a friend in the 90s.

Oh, what a joy it was to sneak into her bathroom cabinet and secretly smell it. Mysterious, erotic, truly magical... I always dreamed of giving it a place as my signature scent when I grew up and could afford a good perfume of my own.

Then the time came. In Germany, of course, because it was out of fashion and not available in any regular perfumery. So I packed my little son into the car and drove to France, where the idea of a signature perfume is still more widespread, which means that perfumeries also have to stock older perfumes.

Unfortunately, they no longer had samples. I was puzzled that the bottle looked so different. I then bought 100 ml for €150, blindly.

What a disappointment!!!

The scent in the bottle had nothing in common with the scent of my memory. It was reformulated.

As some previous commentators have already noted, I feel that the new Magie Noire lacks the depth, mystery, and unobtrusive yet enchanting oriental quality that the old one had.

What a shame!! How I wish I could smell the old Magie Noire once more.

The investment was certainly for the trash can.
