on testing and settling

I think I am still going through the honeymoon period of frantic testing, reviewing, blind buys and whatnot, but sometimes it's just best to chill with time-tested favourites. Today, while I wait for my samples and the recent Beyoncé release "Rise" to arrive, it is Alien edp.

What is yours?

Triffid - ooh, I have been getting into some classics like Cabochard and N°19 - not sure if they are the most representative of green chypres, but they do have their invigorating qualities :) How lovely to compare with someone who lives a world away.. I am definitely looking forward to the warm season so I can do some power-testing of some floral and citrus samples I have amassed in the past few months!

Sleuth, I got it on Friday and gave it a quick sniff, will try to come up with a review asap!

Sorceress, I definitely agree! I buy my faves for use, but won't probably stop sampling new or otherwise unknown perfumes any time soon. After all there are several new ones released every day :D I can only speak from my own experience, but I think the initial enchantment of perfume is a strong motivator in itself for newbies like me to want to try simply *everything*.

Totally agree, Sweetgrass. Sampling can be a bit exhausting for me, analysing new perfumes often stops me from just relaxing and enjoying the wearing of perfume. It's late summer here, still very warm but with a sultry humidity that has had me revisiting my green chypres. They seem just right for this weather, dry and green and not sweet. Today I put on Givenchy III (not vintage but not the Les Mythiques bottle either, seems to be a formula from a period inbetween). This fragrance initially disappointed me in winter as it seemed weak and ephemeral and rather bitter. Today, the weather is bringing out its best and it smells divine and has lasted half the day. I'll start sampling again soon but for now I'm rediscovering the existing collection.

I was chilling with a sample, Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate. Strange but nice. - How many days until you get Cédrat Enivrant??

That made me smile...if we didn't sit back with our favorites, they'd never get used, right? One of mine in the chilly weather is Anne Klein II over Nicole Miller. I'll wear this and then look at my other lonely bottles and promise myself that I will spray them, too. Do you think some go through a period of "frantic testing, reviewing, blind buys"? I'd say if you love perfumes, then when the itch hits you, then you go through the testing and naturally, you'll write the reviews. Of course, we all are always looking for The Holy Grail, too. Although I've pretty much found mine, I'll continue to sniff around... :) I love perfumes too much to not ignore them. In the meantime, we should all enjoy what we have humbly.
