Interesting to read your preferences, and you certainly are familiar with notes! On your hate list, I agree, sadly, with rhubarb. I really wanted to like it, but it was an ideal that lived in my head if that makes sense. We part ways significantly on green notes! They're my ride and die, hence my name. Big agreement on heliotrope. Huzzah! Thank you for sharing.

Yes it's really weird, I loove the smell of everything in my "hate" list in real life. Love me a lavender soap, spices in my food, etc, but in perfume I'm the opposite!
Green notes is, like you said with rhubarb, an ideal that lived in my head too :( I just ain't that girl unfortunately

Note breakdowns always fascinate me, it's fun seeing it for your own preferences!
How did you create your list @Violetaura ?
Did any of these notes surprise you, when making the list?
And do the notes align with what you've seen on Parfumo's "Profiler" drop-down feature (where they show how many of your fragrances have the most-used notes in your collection)?
I'm always surprised looking through that, as I find many of the notes there are ones I wouldn't have guessed to be part of my "top notes".
I noticed you listed anise as a "hate" but licorice as "unsure" - licorice is often flavored using anise, so the two are often synonymous or closely related (at least it is here in the USA). Is it the same in Australia, for you?
Thanks for sharing! 😊

@Violetaura that is interesting about the white florals in your top!
I can see how they might sneak in to a lot of your favorites, with all the variety - since gardenia is super creamy, it could be in gourmands; with many types of jasmine, one version could be clean/soapy and another could be indolic/candy-like; etc.
I normally hate bergamot, but it's in the bottom of my top notes; however I understand it can be a good support player, if quieter/less synthetic.
I see what you're saying about enjoying the anise in Black Opium - I'd be curious to hear what you think of licorice in other fragrances, and how you feel it compares to the anise whenever you do test it!
I'm sure that did take a while to dissect, but it sounds like it was rewarding as you now feel more empowered when you shop. 👏
I feel you on the pickiness towards fruits though haha 😂 just means you know what you like, and there's nothing wrong with being selective!

Oh wow I've noticed that the Parfumo "top notes" for me are very surprising too. Like it has white florals as my top! White florals are usually in the midnotes of my favourites, buy I still tend to not notice them. I genuinely don't thing any of my fragrances are very floral, so yeah, weird! What do your "top notes" say that surprises you?
I noted licorice as not sure because I still enjoy Black Opium a lot after the pepper dissappears. So I want to someday see if licorice will smell exactly the same as anise in a perfume to me! Maybe they make it a lot more sugary.
Otherwise, i literally just studied the notes in every fragrance im very familiar with and sorted it all out! It took a while, but sooo worth it. It's now like a list I will consult before thinking of buying anything. I don't think anything surprised me when making this list, except realising even though I love fruity notes, I am still super super picky with which fruits! So annoying hahaha >_
