One of my bucket list endeavors in the world of olfaction was to visualize the evolution of Coco Chanel as a creative director, consequently, the contribution her directions put in the world of artisanal/indie perfumery.

Imagine Chanel still made perfumes like they did till Coco Chanel was alive. Honestly, artisanal perfumers would thrive to be in a similar vein as per vision. Sadly today the brand is not what they were back in the 60s or even 80s. Scarcity of quality compositions let alone an artistically viable structure. Most of what they do now are solely ambushing the past masterminds with narrow minded, dependent profiles coupled with inferior craftsmanship. The markups have skyrocketed with recent cosmetics inflationary schemes, helping the umbrella companies absorb greater influx of cash.

One aspect of human behavior that I feel pity for is how people tend to judge arbitrarily based on misinformation/lies. Illinformed notions spread with passion whereas the proper knowledge hides, mixed in the lost lattice. Slowly, the evolution of the material then solely depends on misinformation and falsehood driven by the core consumers subjected by companies.

That's the overall scene of the 21st century designers and niches, where the larger brands mask out positive information; selling completely different compositions under the same tag. A wise application of delusion on naive or in most cases uneducated consumers that works.

Here, all the bottles range from the 50s-80s. As aforementioned, my luck entailed(thanks to the og owners). 40 to 70year old perfumes, with intact profiles. Short chained aldehydes are well known for their unstable nature, hence doesn’t hold up with age. The quality of such preservations depends on certain criterions, which, if followed by collectors, will be passed down to subsequent decades of students.

In the upcoming review, ill go deep with no.5 and how it propelled the entire perfume catalog imagined by Coco Chanel till 1960, and surely enough; it's contributions towards contemporary fineart perfumery.
